Title: This is a first
Post by: Torque on May 28, 2015, 12:00:41 AM
First time I've seen an article in the main stream media about Silk Road and Ross Ulbricht (aka: DPR) that is without a single mention of Bitcoin.... anywhere in the article.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/convicted-silk-road-drug-baron-122513214.html

I think this is significant, as it's clear that the author went out of her way to NOT mention Bitcoin in the article.  They didn't vilify Bitcoin as they have typically done in the past, connecting it to drug dealing, Silk Road, etc.  Even the words 'crypto currency' do not appear anywhere in the article.

Turning point?

When they are screaming bitcoin this and bitcoin that we know where they stand, when they are avoiding mentioning it that makes me suspicious as to why they are not mentioning it  ??? It is cliche but I really do believe the old saying any press is good press. I found bitcoin because of the bad press on tv watching the silkroad documentary as I am sure others have arrived the same way. We don't want to be forgotten  :o

It talks about money laundering, without mentioning Bitcoin.
That definitely is a positive!

it's too early to say. but it's a start. i get tired of seeing media clowns connecting bitcoin to bad activity every time. it's about time for them to stop doing so. fiat currency in form of cash money is much worse. but they don't say much about that.

is it possible that they skipped the bitcoin part to try make people think less about bitcoins?
i mean like there are still billions of people who do not know anything about bitcoins, if they skip that maybe its because not to make the people aware about bitcoins and activities around bitcoins.

Everyone know that Silk Road used BTC as payment method.

No need to mention it over and over

This is no turning point, it's just out off topic. Why would the author mention bitcoin in an article about a convicted man wanting to live his old age?

Good point. Actually I was introduced to BTC thanks to Silk Road related news in mainstream newspaper website about economics, it was the first time ever i heard about it. If it wasn't for it (And it was a negative article against BTC) I may not be here now being ahead of a lot of people that has never heard about it yet.

Maybe some of those media clowns bought some bitcoins and no longer want to report negative about it.  But it is strange to not mention bitcoins.  It seems that every story comes with a one or two sentence description like "bitcoin for those who don't know is the infamous currency used by drug kingpins and mafioso to run their crime syndicates".

I was also introduced to bitcoin by silk road. Saw a Dutch tv show where they ordered some drugs off silk road by using bitcoin. I almost bought some bitcoin, but thought it was too expensive (15 usd each)..

even "bad mention" is still somehow mentioned and visible. in local media we had similar articles and bitcoin was mentioned as always..
