Title: War is brewing in the south sea...
Post by: spazzdla on May 28, 2015, 02:45:40 PM
Think there is any threat of a direct attack against North America?

Also what asset class would one hold during war?

wuzzah?

What is the south sea and what is this war you speak of?

I'm assuming the south China sea and I doubt there will be a war over any of it.  the chinese will get away with what they're doing because they're huge and nobody will fuck with them beyond these gnat like aggravations being carried out by the US and whoever else may be fucking with them in similar meaningless displays of pique.

teeth will gnash, feet will stomp- and no-one will do shite.

China does not have capability to attack mainland America. China is bluffing. China will not win against America in conventional or nuclear war.

I seriously doubt there will be war.  Every time a nation gains in power like China has in the last decades they like to flex their muscles.  You have to consider that China is basically subsidizing USA debt by purchasing government bonds by the boatload.  Neither side wants war.  China wants to collect the interest on the bonds and the USA wants them to keep subsidizing its ridiculous spending habits.  You can be sure that both sides of the equation would fail if there was a war between them.

Also lots of people would die so I really really hope that nothing comes of it.

The only way for USA get rid of all is debts overseas is WAR. If USA does not defeat China it will never be in the future. USA will decline 10 - 20 if there is no war.

The Americans have been fooling the Chinese for many decades now, and the latter is slowly realizing about what is actually happening. The American strategy is very simple. They will sell their debt to "rich" nations such as China. Then the Americans will devalue their currency, by printing tons and tons of banknotes. Effectively, the Americans are reducing their net debt at the cost of the Chinese.

China is far to smart to attack the U.S. It would kill millions and to what end? Better to keep us buying and funding a future Chinese led planet. Although it is worrying for the west, China is not doing anything differently than any emerging superpower.  Let's hope it never leads to war.

China is the world’s most important rising power. In two decades, China has moved from the periphery to the center of the international system. Every day and everywhere, China figures prominently in global attention.
But War?
China actually exercise global influence: global trade patterns, global energy and commodity markets, the global tourism industry, global sales of luxury goods, global real estate purchases, and cyber hacking.
War does not suit them at this time.

U.S. does have large amount of decent land until they finish destroying it.  China has a large population I'm sure they wouldn't  mind the land, and shouldn't be too worried about losing the fake money income.

there will be a lot of proxy wars for sure.
we are right now at the beginning of a new cold war and the south sea has actually a lot of oil.

there is much discussion about that for quite a while now.
parties directly involved are several asean states, japan, korea, china and indirectly of course the us.

for the us oil is not the main matter here - it is about to build a counter force to the rising china, just geo-political stuff.
