Title: 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable nginx
Post by: SebastianJu on May 29, 2015, 10:35:10 AM
I get this error so often now that its not funny anymore. Its way more than before the hack happened.

I guess its not only me that get this error since its a server error.

When it appears then it takes a couple of seconds and in that timeframe you can reload as often as you want, the page wont load. After its gone it will work again for some time. Minutes or even only seconds.

So is this some script running on the server that is overloading the server? What can be done to change this?

is strange for me everything is working fine, but is true that the day after the forum come back i notice lot of "blank" page, but now all seems ok for me.

maybe is just a problem of dns? did you try to change it?

It might be due to the amount of people logging in after receiving the information about the hack. The requests aren't being completed quick enough. It's probably happening when there's a spike in people and the backlog is full and rejects any new requests. Adding more caching might be a solution.

I can't say I'm experiencing it as much as you claim though. Perhaps a few hours in between. Some users might never see it, it depends on the load on the server and where you are in the 'queue'.

It happened back when the server is just up after a days of error BUT today Im not receiving any errors. Sites run and loads smoothly.

I got this error yesterday. First it appeared as a Database Error and then a blank page with the 503 error loaded. It's working too slow after the hack and pages take more than 30 seconds to load.

I had this problem day before yesterday and I was inactive yesterday but today it is fast for me. Pages loads in a few seconds.

You're loading pages too fast and hit the rate limiter.

Off topic, but how did you get an animated avatar?  Me jealous.

Thanks theymos. Though i cant believe that. I only reload fast when i get that error. Might be not smart though i never know when the problem is gone. So reloading is the only way to get the page. And i did not get an error message or block AFTER i reloaded often to get the page. A limiter should switch on then i guess.

Besides that, i open threads, read the new posts and go to the next. If there isnt some threshold like "Only 5 pages each minute" then i should not meet any limiter. If there would be a limiter of that kind then it would be not so cool because it would mean i have to spend even more time on the forum. Its eating much time already anyway...  ::) :P

Is it a DDOS-Protection?

Its correct that it doesnt happen so often today than yesterday and before. Though still a hindrance.

Theymos, i observed it now a little bit. I get this error when i have read for a couple time on a forum page and want to see the next. So i cant imagine how a reload trigger might be involved. If it would then after that it would have to hit even harder.

So im not sure if its a coded limit.

Just got the same message and I'm pretty sure I wasn't loading pages too quick. Not really a major deal but it is a bit annoying when you keep having to refresh.

I have also encountered this problem twice(after the latest hack). For me this error also became frequent after the previous DDOS attack. But things have been running smooth since a couple of days, I guess it was just a server issue and this are fine now.

I had 404 error the day forum was online but that was only first time i load any topic later that day everything was fine.
Seem that we all experience some sort of error and now everything is fixed.

The occurence of this error becamse very low. Maybe the server really simply gets to its limits sometimes. And after the hack everyone was trying to check out the forum.

Anyway... this board needs the new software. And hopefully a better security can be provided.

I experienced that too but its different from the 503 error. I believe the 503 is a server answer so downforeveryone... would not state that the website is down because the server is answering.

Im not sure, i tend to believe the 503 error has something to do with caching of the forum.
