Title: USD volume traded in bitcoin - is the chainblock reliable?
Post by: JuKing on May 29, 2015, 03:25:17 PM
I need the information on the daily/ quartarly volume for BTC/USD transactions.

In the chainBlocck, there's an estimate of UDS transaction volume. However, is this reliable?
https://blockchain.info/charts/estimated-transaction-volume-usd?timespan=60days&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=

Is this the amount of BTC/USD going through all exchanges?

I want the clean number of USD put into bitcoins - not what's been traded in the block chain.

I've used this chart also and plottet each exchange's volume for each day
http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/pair/btc/usd/okcoin/3-months

However - the numbers I get are highly different from the blockchain estimate.

Any help to get on the subject would be MUCH appreciated :)

The number on blockchain.info is an estimate of the USD value of all of the transactions, not how much was traded from Bitcoin to USD. You will have to get data from all of the exchanges in order to see how much BTC was traded for USD and vice versa.

https://bitcoinaverage.com/markets#USD and http://www.bitcoincharts.com/markets/currency/USD.html might give you some indication as well.

Whats with the spike in transactions? You'd think this would correlate to a possible price spike? Can anyone determine where it's coming from?

No, trading on exchanges is only just a number and not concerd with any blocks
