Hmm, you have forgotten your password to your wallet but you remember that it was 10 characters long?
How can you be certain of that if you forgot about it?

You are having a big trouble now! Nowadays bruteforcing 10 characters long psd will take ages based on our existing CPU power! Nearly impossible!

There are a few people in the services sub forum which might be able to help you! Welsh helped me recover one of mine when I simply mistyped the password but looks like he doesn't do it anymore. So you should try and contact btchris or www.walletrecoveryservices.com

If you forget the password , you need to forget about the wallet too. There are so many case just like you did and as far as I know even you're offering big bounty, there's no way to recover the wallet without a correct password.

Never forget something crucial

I was lucky to only lose the google authenticator since erased on my android but I just try to recover it by using the word "important" and succeeded, but had to wait for one week :(

Honestly paper wallet would have solved this. Sad to hear OP lost money but bruteforcing will take so long it's not going to happen (most likely).  If OP new part of password it could be narrowed down and depending on how much he knew could be possible.  But I think it's gone.

Paper wallets are great.  You can make copies store them in safe places.  And can use public address to look at them to "check" ballance.  Or even usb drive's again keep them safe.

Do you have more details about password?

If the password has only number or not really random for example you might have a chance.

btcrecover(https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover) might come handy, it's only useful if you know some parts of your password.

OP knew how many characters so that is good.  That limits it down some.  But still even with knowing 10 it is usless it will not be cost efficient unless a LOT of money is in account.

But you are right if he knows part of it, or even better first part or last part.  He could make some dictionary or rainbow tables and possibly get it back.

That being said I think it's probley gone forever. As most just don't get recovered to little btc in them to make it worthwhile.

Hopefully your password was commons word(s) with minimal randomness and no special characters(for the sake of recovery).   That github program looks interesting, but it is coded in python so it must use CPU only.   If you can find something coded in C, you can utilize GPU resources and make the cracking take a fraction of the time.

next time if you want to avoid this without the need to write your password on a paper or memorize it, or something else, you can simply put as a password a private key(which is empty), associated to another new wallet, and make a backup of that

it's another why of securing your btc

Tried to crack mine with no success. brute force with a bunch of variables. Still no go. I say move on/restore from backup.

They are great for security but they should be secured nevertheless. Paper wallets should be secured in case someone cracks into your safe or find your paper wallet itself. Take note that if there are lots of copies, people can have more chances of finding them. CPU cracking is almost impossible but GPU cracking is possible depending on length and characters used.
