Title: Matthew Neal Wright: You have been reported to the SEC and Korean authorities.

Many of us in #btcst on Freenode have come together and filed against your unregistered, fraudulent hedging program. You as a US Citizen have victimized many abroad and domestically. You have broken many Security and Gambling laws in Korea and in the United States.

You will be brought to justice by either the SEC, Korean authorities or other international authorities.

If you have been a victim of Matthew's fraudulent conduct, please report it here under insurance: https://denebleo.sec.gov/TCRExternal/questionaire.xhtml

How was anyone a victim?

Was there any loss involved?

If there is no loss, how can there be a victim?

Matthew would've taken the funds of his bettors if he had won his bet. People only gave him this opportunity of huge winnings by fraudulently misrepresenting his enterprise.

It's a case of endangerment and severe fraud. Financial fraud is a crime in most first-world countries.

Is this a joke?

People have hedged with Bitcoin Savings and Trust securities along with Matthew's bet. In essence, he has offered a fraudulent security which he marketed to many as a hedging instrument.

There has been financial loss.

There has been financial loss.

1)  If, as you claim, he offered a faulty security, then why was it in the gambling subsection?  Moreover, if everyone really thought this was a hedging instrument, then why did no moderator place the thread in the appropriate forum section?

2)  Financial loss?  To whom?  How would you calculate this loss?

His service meets the legal definition of a security. The forum's policies have no relevance.

Who here has suffered financial, emotional and other losses from Matthew's financial service?

If his service was in the gambling section, then it's clear that the intent was to be a gamble and not a security.

I'm interested to see who suffered any calculable, financial loss.  You said "there was financial loss," and I want to see it.

Emotional loss?  Are you serious?  Are you sure it's not just the inevitable result of being a bad gambler and being irresponsible with money?

Sure you did tough guy. Did you sign your complaint "Pimp" too? I'm sure that will impress the piss out of the SEC when considering your issue with a pretend bet with a pretend currency with a pretend identity on the internet for an anonymous event that happened exactly as it was described by someone who is probably in Korea.

They are probably scrambling the SEC/Interwebz Anti-Fraud Squad Black Helicopter Fleet right now to go and catch this evil genius, and have him brought before the International Court of Interwebz Justice in Den Hauge.

We're still a few generations from this being an obvious truth. Too many people still conflate the State with self-government, but it will sink in as the State becomes a lesser agent in the next century. I wish I could live to see it.

I'm just surprised that people are surprised that he reneged. From the beginning, it seemed pretty likely to me that these "bets" were little more than boastful talk. And that includes the people that bet against Pirate. I'd be surprised if even 50%+ would've paid Wright if he won.

Since you guys are reporting a bet to the authorities, and you were betting that someone else would (or wouldn't) pay up on an investment scheme so risky it would be considered gambling, or a big bet, I don't think much will happen of all this.  They won't take you seriously.

However, we should launch a 3rd level of bet, will Matthew pay up the bet?  Place your bets.

P.S. Isn't gambling illegal to the eyes of the law?

All investments are bets. At some point, Matthew started advertising his bet as a hedging instrument against Pirate's default. That's when he allegedly violated securities law. I'd love to see that tested in court though.

Not sure why people here think it would be bad for bitcoin. I think it would be great to pass that stage already and see what kind of approaches would authorities make. That's when bitcoin gets consolidated. Do you guys honestly think it's never going to happen?

Ok, I'll remember: never fuck with the Bitcoin community offering an obviously absurd gamble that might lead someone to make bad decisions on an already losing game, just fuck with it offering an obviously absurd saving program to which everyone will lose big money (even the ones that tried hard not to be involved). Since I do not see a tenth of this rage against Pirate.

In essence we would need a system of schools to educate people on correct behaviour, coupled with institutions to enforce said behaviour and a system to dole out reglemented punishment in case of failure to adhere to said behaviour. Also an institution to administrate all that. We could finance it by taking a percentage out of every transaction.

Yeah! And then we could elect people to be in charge of doling out said retribution and pay them from the transactions. We can trust them, right? We elected them, after all. What could go wrong?

Until people learn to restrain their own greed for three seconds and be able to spot an obvious scammer from the get-go, we'll see another replay of this  tragicomedy very soon.

I'm god awful at gambling but I know a bad business plan when I see one. These mining based ponzis appear to be the "MAKE MONEY FAST!" of bitcoin.

Does you mom know you are fucking around with her computer?

That's hilarious, but you forgot to mention that the relevant pretend currency is still in the 'unstable and highly experimental beta-testing' stage.

Don't mess with the Bitcoin Police's Korean Division!

In a  civilised world you dont let some people prey on others. Otherwise it ends up at gangland warfare.

Don't be prey and you won't get preyed on. Easy peasy.

Wonderful! I'm joining a gang. Or starting one. I'll call it the BTCripps.

lol.  What will the pledge process be?  :)

From everything I read, BTC is all about not having to be part of "fiat currency" and being separate from Big Government, which so many of the posters seem to believe is all that is keeping down.

Yet now you expect Big Government to run in and save you?

That's like saying that living in Mom's basement makes you an independent man, but when someone on the playground pushes you down, running home and tattling to your dad.

Not really getting convinced to support BTC with a community like this.

I see no problem with using the services your tax pays for. On the other hand if you avoid paying tax on your coins then you cant use them imho.

I wish we could subscribe to a private peace force but government monopoly makes that impossible.

tl;dr pay tax and at least get some service as shitty as it is.

I wish we could subscribe to a private peace force but government monopoly makes that impossible.

Think about this for a minute...

Back in the old days, there were private cops. They often beat up and robbed and/or flat out murdered dudes protected by the other cops, if you wanted them to actually DO something, you had to pay them more, and their charges were pretty much whatever they decided.

Would you like to go back to that? Having to be careful which part of the city you were in, whether or not your legal protection was valid at any given time due to time/date/service area?

You think the government fucks you over, wait till you see private peace force.

Compare the shit Blackwater and other merc groups pull to Britain, US, or Canadian forces, and you'll see what you get.

Best case scenario, they just toss out your claim, and roll their eyes.

Worst case scenario, they humor you, and start imposing gambling regulations on BTC.

In your opinion its a lose lose, in mine, its a I don't care lose.

In the end pirate and Matthew probably pissed off these people http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_mafia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_mafia) going by all the posts in the russian forum.

The last people I would be concerned about is the SEC.
