Title: New Forum Sections? (Physical Cryptos, Affiliate Networks, Signature Campaigns)
Post by: OgNasty on May 31, 2015, 04:09:15 AM
I've noticed that the services section is heavily populated with affiliate networks and signature campaigns.  It makes it difficult to find the offers of people actually willing to provide services for bitcoins.  Maybe adding a sub-section for Affiliate/Signature Campaigns might be a good idea?

I also think that there are quite a lot of people posting threads about physical crypto-coins in the Goods section.  A new sub-section for Physical Cryptos might also be beneficial.

Thoughts?

I think that we have a large enough group of physical coin guys to warrant this! I also think we should have a domains sub since so many of them are being offered.

Not the first time that someone ask for signature campaign section and affiliate network section.

Usually a new section is created when some category of topics starts to be annoying, like the ponzis in the investor-based games.

As far I know, there are not THAT many signature campaigns around, and they are far away from being annoying.

Absolutely agree about the physical crypto section, or sections .... Goods and auctions

Help us coin collectors and sellers keep track things easier. Also keeps us out the way a bit

I know there will be many who feel the same.

Maybe a new section for 18+ stuff.  There is like not a ton but it feels like it would make sense to not have with regular services.

Could be a stupid idea it is not horrible I just happen to log in where 3-4 were twords top so caught my eye.

No point of having any new section for Signature Campaigns as there are just ~10 or at max. 15 signature campaigns at a time. Isn't worth making a whole section for it, right?

I count 13 campaign threads in the services section on the first page and another 9 on the second page.  There undoubtedly many more.

This suggestion was made earlier as well and the MOD disagreed with it saying that there are not many signature campaigns that require another section and one can always search for jobs through the Services section.

I support this idea but having too many sub sections may make things look complicated. There are only 23 signature campaigns active as of now.

I agree that having too many sub-sections would not be helpful.  When you combine the affiliates and signature campaigns though, there are MANY more than 23 out there.  You could even combine them with faucets in my opinion.  It degrades the quality of the services section when 95% of the things listed will earn you a few cents per hour.

My personal interests align more with the Physical Cryptos sub-section though.  I like to keep track of the Casascius coin market and it isn't always easy to find all of the sales threads because they get buried so quickly.

If the affiliates pay too low, then they belong to micro earnings, so no need to create another section. And signatures campaigns give more than few cents/hour, unless it is a newbie only one or if you take hours to make a single post. And they have few in common with affiliates, so I think they don't belong to the same sub-forum

And maybe a favorites topics list for each member should be created, so if someone has some special interest about something, like Casascius coins, one could put all the threads related to the subject in his favorite list

We definitely, definitely need a section just for signature campaigns.  Looking through the service section, it's full of them and you can't really find much else...

I agree to have a dedicated subsection with Physical Cryptos.

At this given point in time is there 37 threads on the front page of Marketplace > Goods.
From the 37 threads is 11 threads related to Physical Cryptos, that is more than 1/4 of the threads which is related to Physical Cryptos.

I agree with your proposal, we need these sub-sections (especially the services section that it's populated by all the sig. campaign thread).

Those signature campaigns are constantly being bumped to the top, meaning that all of the other services are pushed down to the bottom.

Exactly and that's why we need a new sub-board.

I fully agree with both points OgNasty said. If signature campaign threads had their own Services sub-section it would more easily allow people to both look for work for BTC and look to have jobs completed while paying BTC. Something like http://www.reddit.com/r/Jobs4Bitcoins comes to mind. I have no real problem with signature campaigns (besides mass spam by some members), and as you can see I'm a member of one currently, but I agree that they have a sub-section's worth of activity alone and usually take up most or all of the Services front page. I could see somebody who's looking to have some work contracted out get confused when looking at the Services section and seeing so many Sig. Campaigns.

Definitely agree about the physical crypto "economy" having it's own sub-section from Goods. There are a great many of us that check the Goods section all the time mainly just for the physical crypto content (new coin sales, discussions, etc.). The same reasoning I said above for Services applies: the majority of Goods 'For Sale' threads are physical crypto related and this could potentially make it harder for other types of vendors or purchasers to market their goods for BTC.

I think if physical crypto products (coins, notes, etc.) had their own Goods sub-category, we could do quite nicely with something like:
-Announcements/News/Market Discussion
-Goods
-Auctions

I think the discussion one would definitely be a good idea; there are no specific areas of the forum for us physical crypto nuts to talk coins (besides 'Off Topic'), and as a result we often end up discussing in sales threads, which in turn continuously keeps those threads on the front page which further obscures other Goods for sale.

I second this thought as well, it seems like the majority of Auctions are always domains for sale. Maybe a combined Goods/Auctions sub for domains or maybe just an Auction sub- "Domain Auctions". Just a thought.

I really didn't see that much threads about Physical cryptos even if there is , I don't think it will be useful to make another Sub forum about it .
However I agree on the idea to make Signature compaign announcement threads instead of using Service announcement , because there is a lot of them .  Add a poll if you don't mind .

Combined Goods/Auctions sub would not be good unless admins make some kinda tick button for "auction style"
But a dedicated  "Domain Auctions" would work. It is extremely important that post in a auction section cannot be edited.

There's a little over 20 going by the Signature Overview Thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0

There might seem like there's a lot as they're the most popular types of threads in the Service section and often bumped so they stay at the top but 20+ isn't really enough for an entire subforum.

I would think that a domain sale should be in the digital goods section or the regular auctions if it is an auction. I'm not saying we should add sections for every popular item. I just think that physical bitcoins on a bitcoin forum probably deserve their own section. I also think the signature campaigns/affiliate offers/faucets are a nuisance to those actually looking to provide or obtain services and the people using those services would probably appreciate having them all together as much as those who don't care to see them would like them out of the way. There are hundreds of signature and affiliate campaigns in the services section. You only need to look through a few pages and count for yourself.

I think it would be a good decision to, to add a signature campaign section. This way instead of having to go through all the services that are offered, its controlled in one section. Same for the Physical Cryptos subforum. Both would be great ideas.

I would personally appreciate a Domains section and a separate section for the Sig campaigns. It would make the services section a lot cleaner.
