Title: Martingale, A Few Questions
Post by: gampher on June 06, 2015, 04:53:55 AM
Is martingale just the 2x thing in which we double every bet we lose?
Also, if not, according to you what is the best martingale strategy?
Does martingale really works? Is it useful?

Please share your experience with martingale. You got some story to share?

Thanks

Short:

If you always double your bet, you will always win your initial bet. If you win.
You have good chance to win little, and small chance to lose big. The loss most likely will be bigger than whatever you won before the loss.
The amount of money you put after each loss will increase exponentially. Your win amount will always stays the same.
Of course you can increase your bet by other amounts, but you'll need to think about each case.

And no, martingale can't defeat the house edge of dice sites

I tried martingale once and it was a disaster.
I lost lots of btc and then a never used martingale again.
It would work only if you could limit your max loosestreak.
But dice is not predictible. You could very well get a 15 loose streak if you're extremely unlucky.

If you find Mr. Martingale tell him, he and gamblers need to have a talk.  :P

And to answer your question it is the strategy where you double your bet after each loss so that the next win will make up for all of the previous losses. But some people modify it according to their needs.

You can read more about it here: Martingale (betting system) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martingale_%28betting_system%29)

Martingale is bad as you will eventually hit a long streak as you bet more and more. If you want to have a better chance winning, you could and should just make one bet directly.

martinagle can be done in many ways , it's not only X2
the purpose of it is to recover your previous losses and win a base bet
so you can for example bet on X1.25 and when you lose increase 500 % , that's how it works
it's not working all the time , there will be a point that u will lose a lot due to martinagle
if u like to try it , try it but withdraw when u feel that u have achieved a nice profit

Dont try martingale especially on 2x and doubling on loss
you will never make it to a certain number of profit

Martingale = you double your original bet until you win. you will win the amount of original bet.

to win with martingale you will need an unlimited bankroll, a casino OP who has no limit for his game and no house edge. in this case you cant lose :) so just think about it if you can match those conditions?

I am sure that you can't find those conditions. so the best chance to win is to put the amount you want to risk in one bet on the table. (as one already posted here)

but to enjoy the games you can use martingale and all systems out there with coins you can afford to lose.

good luck

Basically martingale only works in theory and if you have unlimited bank-roll.

Because eventually you will lose your entire bankroll the longer and longer you play.

1. Yes
2. No best martingale strategy - all of them fail regardless of what you do.
3. Hell no, mathematically you are destined to fail in the long term unless you satisfy two conditions: a) you have infinite money b) the casino has no house limit

Since both a and b are impossible (and let's be honest here, why would you bother gambling if you already had infinite money - go spend it already), you are never going to win overall. I could go on with some basic math and graphs, but I won't bother - it's been studied extensively, there are no means of beating a -edge in the long term.

you have to increase your bet amount on every bet so that if you whin this bet, it would cover all your previous losses to this bet plus win a profit equal to the original stake

it is usually a 2x increase but if you have different odds, you can increase by different factor just to cover the loss plus profit.

but keep in mind that in order to win using martingale strategy you have to have unlimited funds, otherwise you are going to lose are your investment.

You need 2 factors to beat the house if you use the martingale system.

1. You have big enough money to cover over 10 loss streak. 10 loss streak is 1024X if you use it. So you need to have 1k usd if you bet 1 usd.

You bet 100 USD if you have 100k USD, but if you are unlucky and have more losses than 10 loss streak, you will be busted. If you have 1billion USD, i don't think you bet any more, just enjoy your rich life with super cars, houses, beauties, yachts, luxury watches   :D

2. you are lucky enough so you can easily win, you get 10 winning streak but not lose.

But 2 factors rarely happen, don't bet is the best way to make money. :D

Martingale can be done in many ways. I usually bet at 20x . And keep betting till I get a loss or 2 in a row. Then just bet an amount around 0.05 . Followed by 20x raise ie. 1 BTC. I have been profitable so far, but a 5th loss can always happen.

Oh that is scary. There are less than 5% chances to win at 20x and you bet a bigger amount at every 1 or 2 losses in a row? This doesn't sound good to me. What is the bankroll you use? I don't have enough bankroll so won't work for me.

I always plus 50% of my base bet if i lose..
And from my experience betting on many kind of game from soccer, dice, roulette, etc i still can make profit, but its not big enought, atleast on statistic i still win and earn more money

Better strategies only can be thought thinking about the rules of the games. In dices I'm convinced that there is no better strategy.

All of this is very simple.  The answer is all about the bank roll and all about stopping at a profit point before you hit a losing streak that obliterates your bankroll.  Straight up martingale (2x the bet on loss) is a great way to lose your bankroll very fast--in about 25 seconds or less-- because the exponential factor of 2 is pretty amazing.  it only takes 25 or so losing bets at 50/50 to lose a very sizable bankroll and losing streaks like that aren't uncommon.

Just remember, every single roll is a new roll with a 50% chance to LOSE.  that's a pretty big gamble every time you risk a piece or all of your bank roll.  If someone said there was a 50% chance of dying in a car crash... well there would be a lot less cars on the road.

If you want to lose go for martingale definitely unless  you are smart enough to stop at the right time or even there is a possibility will you never see the right time before your bankroll is taken away. That is why every dice site has Auto-Bet so you can come and lose your money. Thanks

Martingale in my opinion is any such strategy which when repeated gives you initial bet profit on winning. Best strategy I used at DaDice is that play at 90% win chance and everytime you loose make it 11x amount. This strategy gave me more than expected profit in a week or two.

Martingale can be fun for a gamble if you are willing to get in/get out, and not keep pushing your luck. You don't have an endless bankroll -- that's the only way it could ever work. So martingale always loses at the end of the day.

Math says that there's no strategy to dice because there is no skill or decision making involved. If you win 50% of the time and get paid less than 2x your bet, and wins/losses are determined by luck, you will lose in the long run.

You can come up with a strategy in poker because you can get into situations where you will have a +ev. You can come up with a strategy in blackjack because certain decisions/situations can have a positive expectation if you know what cards remain in the shoe. Shit, people will figure out an actual correct way to section bet on roulette or control the dice in craps before they figure out a way to beat random chance with -ev bets.

That's why IMO, one should know that it is a gamble going in, and take profits and run, when they are ahead. Nothing better than continuing to gamble *only* with profits made. Even the biggest of bankrolls will statistically fail with martingale.

The toughest and the most essential part of gambling is certainly " Knowing when to stop and move away with the proofs " and this is the part which most of the gamblers lack with.
