Title: Is sex selling bitcoin?

Has anyone heard of the Bitcoin booty shake girls? If not, check out the link. Apparently some group of people is trying to promote bitcoin with wet t-shirt contests, sexy videos, and other acts of young desire? I'm not surprised it exists. I'm surprised I haven't heard of it yet.

Sex DOES sell...almost anything. I hope it works.

Not a great success, if you ask me. They uploaded those tons of videos almost 8 months ago, and a majority of them are yet to surpass 1,000 views. Their most popular video is just having 25,236 views. Sex DOES sell... but you should market it nicely. If the marketing tactics are bad, then the desired effect will not be achieved in the end.

^^^ This.
A good salesman can sell a fridge to an eskimo.
So, sex sells if you know how to sell it. ;)

Sex DOES sell...almost anything. I hope it works.

The problem is that this is mostly appealing to dicks in more than one sense of the word. If you want people that are not dicks and/or teenage boys to take bitcoin seriously you should focus on something different. Before anyone gets offended by that statement I see no problem with the videos or the idea behind it, but it will not get bitcoin anywhere it is not already. Paying people on webcams is already possible with bitcoin, adding weet t-shirts and begging for donations is nothing new.

Bitcoin doesn't need sex to sell, it sells itself. That being said, I do think the sex industry could really benefit from bitcoin. I think it's only a matter of time before they get involved.

Well dicks are still people and they still help bitcoin adoption regardless of how immature they are but people are going to try use or exploit bitcoin any way they can because its just another way to make money for some people.

What if the Bitcoin-payment processors refuse to cater to the porn websites? I have heard that the Bitpay has turned down a number of requests from porn websites, along with similar requests from merchants dealing with legal Marijuana (in Colorado) and those dealing with pharmaceuticals. We need more and more payment processors, as currently Bitpay and Coinbase are monopolizing the market.

The beauty of bitcoin is they don't need a payment processor. Just sell the coins on an exchange yourself. However, I'm sure there will be a payment processor that will deal with them eventually.

That is quite sad as these industries may give a great boost to bitcoin. It is probably a demand from the share holders though, as they are basically in charge.

I don't understand why they wouldn't deal with adult websites? Why turn business away? Doesn't make sense. I think Paypal do this as well. Couldn't websites just accept bitcoin directly and use their own bots to cash out the coins to an exchange automatically?

Sex is the one of oldest trades known to man. It will always sell.
I don't care what gets traded with bitcoin, all I care is that bitcoin continues to grow & the price increases.
I'd sell my Grandmother into slavery for bitcoin to reach 10,000 USD :D
Money rules the world, we all want to be rich so does anybody really care if bitcoin grows using things like sex to do it?
Money has no morals.

With a little help of sex marketing you are able to raise you sells and awareness of your products. But I doubt that bitcoin developers, entrepreneur and enthusiasts are mature and tactful enough to make it work.
From what I could see these commercials are simply bad and would bring more harm than good. Bitcoin will be associated with another 'bad stereotype'. Do we really need that?

i think the biggest reason that websites don't accept bitcoin directly to their address and then sell it themselves is that right now there aren't many people using bitcoin and maybe it is a lot of effort for little reward if you ask me. so none of the big websites have done it yet.

If you search for that on youtube... you get much better content for free... Why would people pay for that, if they get it FREE? They tried something and it failed.

Their goal was not to promote Bitcoin... It was to capitalize on a opportunity to get money.

In the previous thread on this subject, I highlighted the reasons, why we should not associate Bitcoin with this type of publicity, so I am not going to go into that again here.

They are forced to say no, due to various reasons which are beyond their control. For example, the banks, which are processing the fiat payments for Bitpay will freeze their savings / current accounts, if they deal with porn websites (remember that the same had happened to merchants dealing with legal recreational marijuana in the state of Colorado).

But Cannabis different. That's illegal on a federal level, sex or porn isn't so I can't see any justification why they can't deal with adult sites. Adult sites must have bank accounts too and lets not forget its a billion dollar industry so some banks must be working with them.

Thanks.

i can't see nothing negative about it, maybe the perception is that, but sex is a natural thing that everybody does, it is just the taboo built around it that makes it look dirty and not legal

maybe the problem is that there is a short step between sex and child porn, and someone could use this to put bitcoin in a bad light

Thats not it, child porn has nothing to do with sexy girls trying to sell you something, it is too far fetched analogy. In my opinion it is unwise to build promotion of bitcoin on sexy ads.
After all we want bitcoin to be associated with serious financial market and not with payment method you primarily use to be anonymous while paying for porn.

LOL ?! to who is child porn a short step from sex?! There's nothing wrong in what they're doing , and in fact i like it.
There's no such thing as bad press, and what these girls are doing is just making a business from what they can. OP is right, sex sells, and theses girls know it. :)

Most BTC owners are computer-savvy people who know where to find porn for free, so I don't think sex will help. I would like it better if you could subscribe to the Financial Times with BTC.

Given the amount of interest these girls gathered in the last few months, I'd say that sex is being sold with Bitcoin, and not an awful lot is being sold anyways ;D

There's also bacchusent.com, which I think is the first and only Bitcoin-based porn site that was publicized on Reddit a while back... If folks are making profit selling porn with Bitcoin it is probably this website... and I don't really think they're making that much (although there are no numbers publicized).

It's still pretty early for this industry and Bitcoin. Eventually there will be a bigger connection.

Both Cannabis (at least in Colorado) and porn are not strictly illegal, de jure. However, the banks treat them as "risky sectors to do business", and in 99% of the cases, they will refuse to set up savings accounts for them. Therefore we can say that the banks are treating them as de facto illegal types of business, along with other sectors such as merchants dealing with arms and ammunition.

Any videos containing hot girls showing some skin will get tons of views guaranteed, nothing new. What would matter is how much % of the people that visit it are going to actually look into Bitcoin and not only the girl and continue browsing the internet.

Bitcoin as a payment system being pseudonymous is very handy for online small sex business enterprise if you take paypal or other services you could leave yourself open to giving away your location since buyers can request seller details.

It's probably like less than 1/5 of people that will look into it, since the target of such a video isn't going to be very bright people in average.

It's probably far less than 5%. Most of the people who view porn sites are only there to view porn. After they have viewed it they aren't thinking straight and are unlikely to pursue intellectual questions like "what is Bitcoin".

Hmm.. I don't agree with your argument 100%. The guys will be there initially to view porn. But at least some of them will be noticing the fact that Bitcoin is a rapidly growing market, and investing in the BTC can make them filthy rich in the not too distant future. Most of the people who are addicted to porn, are also addicted to money.  ;D

Then all the rich people in the world are porn addicts... Now that is a interresting concept.  ;) The statistics I posted in the previous thread about this, surely shows that most of the USA are porn addictics.  ;D {just joking.. before you bite my head off}

When someone view porn, they look at the details... some things are suggestive .... If you put the Bitcoin symbol between the breasts, they might miss it. If you put it on the nipple and other strategic spots, and you tell them, to pay to expose that spot, they might just be intterested to find out more.

BUT porn is everywhere...and it's FREE... So you must have something VERY interresting to motivate them to "remove" that Bitcoin symbol.  ::)

Sex sells... If they use Bitcoin or PayPal or Credit cards or cash... It's all the same... IF they use Only Bitcoin, it becomes a problem.  :(
