On 30 June 2015 23:59:60 an additional second will be added to the clock to synchronize it with the orbit of the Sun above the Earth.

The additional second has been linked to things such the "Mandela Effect" and serious "Y2K Bug" like computer glitches.

the fact there's a leap second is quite interesting, but the reason given is quite old-fashioned

ahh so in the end this will be something like "back to the future"? :P

we have one more second in our lives!! so just enjoy it guys haha

So if it is a sundial, would it not just take care of itself?  I guess old tech is still pretty good sometimes.

I'm still not quite clear on the whole mandela effect.    I googled it but it seems pretty ridiculous.   I'm not sure how a leap second could effect that.

Some of the users on http://mandelaeffect.com/ and /r/mandelaeffect have made some sort of correlation between leap second years and retroactive historical changes such as Jiffy to Jif, Berenstein to Berenstain, Mrs Buttersworth to Mrs Butterworth's, etc.... How this could be a result of adding a second to the last minute of June 30th (the next leap) is currently beyond me but, we'll be looking out for any changes the next day...

I, too, remember the peanut butter brand as Jiffy.

I wondered who would own a horse with the name Jiffy Peanut Butter and I’m going to make a leap and say it was most likely Mr. Young, or someone familiar to him. If you look up William T. Young on Wikipedia, it says that he created W. T. Young Foods, which developed “Big Top” brand peanut butter, which was sold to Proctor & Gamble in 1955, and became Jif. However I found this link which shows a page from “Gambling in America, An Encyclopedia of History, Issues and Society.” I don’t know when the book was published, but from the text, it was before Young’s death in 2004. And it clearly states on page 209, that Young made a fortune developing, “JIFFY Peanut Butter.”

…The name “Jif” on the label just looks weird and truncated to me, but none of my family remembered it being Jiffy. When I first noticed it, I thought it must be a name change, but supposedly not. But since there is evidence of “Jiffy Peanut Butter” having existed, it either really was changed, or there is “bleed-in” from the another reality…

While the mandela effect is certainly interesting, the changes seem arbitrary in nature. Computers effected by being forced an extra second is less of an arbitrary issue. IT departments should be aware of potential issues so stuff doesn't blow up and fall out of the sky etc.

When I read another thread posted here last week referring to the Mandela Effect, I looked at some pictures of the Jif peanut butter jars and they also looked strange to me, I remember it being "Jiffy" as well - I'm 100% sure the Berenstein Bears has always been "Berenstein" and not "Berenstain", the Jif thing could be a mixture of Jif and Skippy peanut butter, but I am pretty damn sure it was "Jiffy". I don't recall anything about Mandela dying in 1980 but was only 7 at the time, one thing I have noticed throughout the years are certain celebrities from the past that had passed-away suddenly being alive and well here and there, Larry Hagman for one who had died of liver cancer in the 90s yet years later he was alive and well and later passed-away due to leukemia .

Most clocks are about a minute behind or in front of what the international standard is supposed to be (for their own time zone). I dont think this will effect anyone whatsoever. You just sync your clocks once a week, and that's that, I guess.
