Dusty Rhodes, one of the most charismatic figures in pro wrestling history, died Thursday at age 69.

WWE announced his death on Thursday but said the family had not authorized the release of how or where it happened.

Born Virgil Runnels, Rhodes achieved his greatest popularity as a wrestler in the 1970s and '80s, when he lived up to his other nickname, "The American Dream." He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007 and served as a promo coach for WWE developmental in recent years...

Dusty Rhodes was definitely one of my favorite personalities in the wrestling world, even though I wasn't a huge fan of the whole industry. Rowdy Roddy Piper, The Ultimate Warrior, Kane, Hogan and Rhodes were some of the best there were.

One more Hall-of-Fame wrestler falls down. Wonder what will be the reaction of Gold-Dust and Star-Dust in the ring now? Will they continue to remain separate or will WWE bring them back together to make money on Dusty Rhodes legacy? Time will tell ;D

It's sad, almost like a memory fading.

I think they will probably be back together, makes for a perfect marketing strategy.

Let's see how it goes ;)

Well somewhere down the time, the real wrestling has been left far behind. Nowadays, only marketing and entertainment is on the top. It seems WWE's motto is clear, it doesn't matter if you are a good wrestler or not, all that matters is how big a entertainer you are!! What say?  :(

Dusty was ok, what was his big thing? he was always pumping the common man... those old days of WWF definitely had the best characters. They were also very careful to never call it a "sport" lol. its just show biz.

my favorites were the bushwackers, the undertaker (with paul bearer) and leaping Lanny Poffo, the world's smartest man.

of course, Iron Sheik is LEGEND BUBBA! his twitter account is hilarious! #raisinballs

Dusty Rhodes...I remember seeing him on Houston Wrestling which would air Saturday night and then the replay on Sunday mornings as a kid. There were some pretty good and cheesy storylines, a lot better than wrestling these days. What a crazy world wrestling exists in, I had forgotten about Rhodes' manager, Sapphire - and then in the same pic Miss Elizabeth - she od'd and died while living with Lex Luger who when police came, fund tons of drugs and steroids if I remember correctly.

R.I.P Dusty Rhodes. A good wrestler. Although, none of his sons has become a big thing yet in WWE, atleast he made the mark for himeslf. Hope one of his sons becomes at least as great as he was. That will really put his soul to peace :)
