Title: Deleted posts message has no reference to thread
Post by: TheRealSteve on June 13, 2015, 11:44:10 PM
It appears that "Deleted Post" messages - after a mod or a topic starter of a self-moderated topic deletes a post - don't include any reference as to what thread the post was deleted from.

This recently led to some confusion, as the post's content (quoted in the "Deleted Post" message) made it appear to the user to have come from thread A, when it actually came from thread B.

Is there any way that the message can include a reference to the thread the post was deleted from?

If not, or if more appropriate, please feel free to move this post to the 'New Forum Software' section :)

Unless the exact same post was made in multiple threads (which is reason enough for it be deleted), I don't see how there can be any confusion as to which thread it was deleted from. ???

In this particular case, the content of the post would have been pertinent in thread A.  In fact, without context, it would have been better-placed in thread A, than in thread B.  Yet thread B is where it was.  It's not a particularly huge problem and in general I'd think people do know where they posted a given post - but in those edge cases, having a thread reference would be nice.. and in all other cases, it can't hurt :)

I agree with you. It can lead to confusion especially if there is a few topics related to similar subject.

If you quoted a post and was replying to it, then you can click that quoted post to go to the thread where your post was deleted from.

Yeah, I think it should state the title of the thread it was removed from or be directly clickable (though this may be difficult seeing as the post was removed - though even if the post has been deleted when a quote is posted on the forum it usually takes you back to the top of the thread). It's not a massive issue and you can usually work out where its from but I suppose every now and again it may cause an inconvenience.
