Title: I got scammed by btcrow.com - please HELP
Post by: BitcoinSolutions.com on June 18, 2015, 11:59:34 AM
I used btcrow.com to sell my domain name BitcoinSolutions.com for $7,500 (29.45BTC).

We used their website and followed all their directions.

Buyer sent payment.
Btcrow website said they received payment.

I transferred domain to buyer.

Btcrow website says transaction complete.

And now, btcrow sent me an email saying they never received BTC.

What can I do?

Please HELP

You should provide all the evidence that you have against them as proof. Screenshots and TXIDs etc, but probably not much can be done to be honest.

Edit. Can't find any scam accusations for the site but they have a user here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=27514 but hasn't been online in over a year.

Are you sure the buyer didn't send you a fake link?

Damn.  That sucks.  Why didn't you use Sedo or Flippa?  Try to cancel the domain transfer if possible.  Good luck man.

I logged into btcrow.com website and followed their step by step instructions.

Their website says payment received and now btcrow emails me and says they have not received the payment.

Sorry to hear about your loss hopefully it will get resolved. I was looking at Btcrow the other day when I had a deal needed handling but decided to use trusted escrow here.

Here's Btcrow bitcointalk account https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=27514 looks like the user not logged in for long time, I would advise to stay away from this service.

There are a lot of scam attempts while using btcrow and I don't think it is a good idea to use any kind of automated escrow service. While it is possible that site scammed you, I think it is more likely that your trading partner was able to fake either an email from them or got you to go to a fake site.

While this is a lot of money, hopefully you can recover from this loss and in the future you will use an escrow service by someone reputable on the forum.

I think you should provide more information about what happened (emails, txid ect) as well as info about your trading partner.

I logged into their secure website btcrow.com and followed their step by step instructions.

Their actual website btcrow says they received the BTC so I transferred the domain to the buyer.

Now btcrow emails me saying they have not received the BTC.

The buyer is going to say he sent the BTC.
Btcrow will say they never received it.

What can I do?

"Secure website"? They don't even have SSL as far as I can see. If their website says they have received BTC but they say they haven't then obviously something is wrong here. Try asking the buyer for txid of his payment to btcrow.

btcrow needs to improve their system...

btcrow should not have confirmed they received the payment and then after I completed the whole transaction...couple hours later they send me this email...

Hi

We did not received escrow amount on our system, someone could be trying to scam you.

Regards,
btcrow.com
btcrowhelpdesk@gmail.com

Anyways, glad it turned out good.

They do have SSL but it does not seem to be forced https on all pages of the site. I am sure it's enabled where it needs to be.

Yeah, I can see their SSL now but when I visited the site few hours back SSL was not enabled on the home page. Weird.

EDIT: Ok sorry when I visited the site before I typed http:// instead of https:// so yeah, looks like their SSL is valid, just not redirecting.

89 confirmations??  They worried about a 51 thousand percent attack?  What a load of crap!

Anyways.  Glad it worked out..

bitrated.com is probably a better alternative than btcrow if you do have to use an online escrow service.

That is because you have not realized that bitcoin is not finished in terms of being a payment processor (still a prototype). Bitcoin is an asset ledger, not a currency.

Anyways... I am really happy you got your funds. I have read many scam stories over the years and in most cases the scammer walks away in triumph. Great to see a happy end :)

Bitcoin is not a payment processor.

Bitcoin is an asset ledger, not a currency.

Bitcoin is an irreversible currency. Being irreversible does not mean it is not a currency. I suggest you to read https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

Anyways... I am really happy you got your funds. I have read many scam stories over the years and in most cases the scammer walks away in triumph. Great to see a happy end :)

What an unprofessional escrow service providers? They may keep saying never receiving the money and run away! Then you are scammed and can do nothing to them! Bitcoin's transaction's none reversal feature could be the advantage, or could be drawback in some situation! Escrow services are arising to counter this! Maybe one day govs step up this area, regulate or insure the third party escrow service, Bitcoin's adoption may be boosted quickly!

I've used btcrow many times, and always correctly, the last time yesterday with 185 bitcoins in escrow and smoothly. Surely it was an exceptional failure by the stress tests.
