Title: 5 BTC Behind 5 Doors!
Post by: SgtSpike on September 14, 2012, 08:02:49 PM
So, this is kind of a silly game, and I could very well end up losing money on it, but here it goes...

I have 5 doors with a combined total of 5 BTC behind them.

Send any amount of BTC to any of the addresses at each door.  If the amount of BTC behind the door, after processing previous bets, is equal to or greater than the amount you send, then your bet is doubled!  If the amount of BTC behind the door, after processing previous bets, is less than the amount you send, then you get nothing!  The game ends 24 hours from now (1:00 PM PST on 9/15/12).

Each door has at least 0.1 BTC behind it.  The hash to prove how much is behind each door (after the game is over) is: 664dce16d2a858798d9034e203b834f952fac18ce36c198a9e453d6f3e736fb7

Door #1 - 1C3sRrLrVAYJSqc8g2qh9VW3w6pUiiQMrc
Door #2 - 15SDcokopxFS3VCMbfGHZyeE4rkhJvex9u
Door #3 - 1PPtkNhJruft7cJf57J6zUp3re3E8VeBnC
Door #4 - 1Gwnng5B4EyAypQz17otu2QED7G8pTvHyL
Door #5 - 1Jc2LqfybEx2aS55PAsEfChQS9STq4d3b6

IMPORTANT: BTC will be sent back to the same address it is sent from! Do not send your bet from an online system like MtGox, or you may not receive your winnings properly!

Well, that wasn't very successful.  ;)

Door #1 - 0 BTC received
Door #2 - 0 BTC received
Door #3 - 0.01 BTC received, doubled to 0.02 BTC
Door #4 - 0 BTC received
Door #5 - 0 BTC received

5 BTC distribution between doors:

Ha, nice, I actually thought about trying to brute-force something like the last 5 lines, but there were too many variables to the format and amounts, and I figured you would throw something random in anyway. ;)

I thought someone might try that.   :D

If the amount of BTC behind the door, after processing previous bets, is equal to or greater than the amount you send, then your bet is doubled!

I missed this game, but I am looking at this line and wondering why a player wouldn't send 5 btc to each address (or 5000 for that matter). It's guaranteed to have equal to or greater than the amount sent, and so in each case the bet would be doubled.

Even splitting in proportion the number of coins behind the door doesn't work (it's still a guaranteed win, although it's limited to 5 btc total).

You are lucky only one person played.

You misread the rules.  You only win if you amount behind the door is greater than the amount you sent.  If you sent >5 btc to every address you would be guaranteed to lose everything.

Ah gotcha. That makes more sense. Actually, it's a pretty cool game. Too bad no one played.

I'd play if you wanted to do another round.

I'll consider it.  I did do it one more time (only listed it in the base Gambling subforum instead of the Games and rounds subforum, which seemed to garner more interest).  I lost money that time around though!  Needed even more people to play...
