Title: question for my friend
Post by: 1905 on September 15, 2012, 01:10:29 AM
Ok i have a quick question. interested in purchasing multiple 7950 video cards. i have:

One PCI Express* 2.0 x 16 discrete graphics card connector
    Two PCI Express 2.0 x 1 connectors
    One PCI Conventional bus connector

i was told that hooking 4 multiple 7950s on all four of these slots would not affect my hashrate. is this correct??

please advise. thk u

Possibly.. It depends on your board.. Some board cannot occupy all of the PCI lanes at the same time..... you may only be able to run 2 or 3 cards total on that board...

ok assuming that the board would allow all slots to be occupied would this be true?

Well yes, you do not lose any hashing power by using a 1x slot.... On one of my rigs I have a single 5850 on a Riser (extender) and it's on a Pci-e x1 slot hashing the same as the same card directly plugged in to the 16x slot...

ok i apologize my friend is stubborn. can u verify that using a pcie 3.0 card on a 2.0 board is also not going to affect hash rate. as well can u verify that using a pcie 3.0 on a pci slot with an adapter also does not affect hash rate.

You're hash rate won't improve if you use a 3.0 board. The bandwidth to use a miner is so small you can use a 1.0 board with 1x and you'd get the same as a 3.0 x16 slot.(don't quote me on it, I'm half cut and am too lazy to research more than what my knowledge says. xD )
