Im guessing they earn money from advertisements within the game, and having increased traffic makes their business worth more and more each day, so
the base capital value is rising, allowing them to even have the ability to cash in on that one day, if the right offer comes their way.
Nothing is free, and most of those freemium games offer some in-game purchases that provide them with profits.

cheers

they can earn money from ads and also by doing this they will have brand awareness. every person that downloads the game and plays it would want to know what bitpay is and probably use it in the future.

I think they only will get popularity or brand awarness...may with huge popularity there are some others game companies that will buy this start up

I'm not aware of this and I can't find the proper link. Could you share it please?
There could be a number of reasons for their money income. If you've played games on your smartphone you should probably know. It's either adds or in game paid content. However it's probably not the permanent kind of ads, but possibly 'watch video for ___ boost' or something like that. I'll check it out once I get the link.

They have a pro version... In this version you can actually wager some BTC while competing. I guess they'll charge a fee?

I highly doubt they'll be able to cover their costs this way (especially since they don't push their pro version), but it's possible they're just building brand awareness?

Free to play market is pretty amazing innovation right now in the gaming world. You would be surprised how much income Free 2 Play titles can generate.
First step is to make game interesting and popular enough, then you can earn from microtransactions, ads. With Bitplay I am not entirely sure how they are gonna generate income.
But I guess ads for now, and additional microtransactions later will be name of the game in their plan.

they might indeed, expand this to other type of game to attract a bigger fan base, otherwise they will be stuck with a niche market, for example they would attarct me if it was an RTS or fps  ;D

but now the real trend is not f2p with small thing to buy for the player, but is the new early access crap, where basically we pay for beta testing...

Most of the money made on the internet is thought adds..
It's either ads, or teasing the user with a premium content. There's no other way around. That's how all those millions of money are being moved with smartphone apps, youtube, blogs...

It can be an answer to your question: Today I read about these two games and installed them - and I'm in love... When my free 200 tournaments was played, I even deposited BTC...

Bitplay seems pretty open that they are new, and perhaps they do not make money now, but if people react just a fraction of what I did, they could have a great platform for making money in the future.

It looks like they aren't making any money right now but will probably in the future. They are funded by Stage 1 Ventures,a venture capital group. I'm guessing that once enough people here about them they will come out with more stuff that you have to pay for so that they can make money.

it seems to me that it is more of a brand recognition apart from anything else.
maybe in the future they release more games that you have to buy in order to be able to play.
other than that they can always earn money through advertising like all the others are doing.

I quote the site --> " Started in 2015, BitPlay Today, Inc. is a privately held Boston-area startup that aims to drive mainstream adoption of Bitcoin and micro-transactions worldwide. BitPlay has introduced the world’s first competitive mobile gaming network where users compete playing familiar mobile games to win Bitcoin. BitPlay offers free tournaments and head-to-head competitions through apps that can be installed from the Google Play app store. BitPlay also offers PRO versions of its apps where players compete for larger amounts of Bitcoin directly from its website.

BitPlay was founded by Christopher Hassett, a serial entrepreneur with a passion for new technologies. Prior to founding BitPlay, Mr. Hassett founded, financed, and built several successful startups in the Internet and mobile space including PointCast, a pioneer in Internet push technologies, and Uproar, a casual web-based gaming company he took public on Nasdaq.

BitPlay is funded by Stage 1 Ventures, a specialist in providing early stage funding to experienced teams exploring emerging technologies.
"

It's a experimental phase, to see if the monetization of games with Bitcoin will take off, and if it is, they would develop and fund it further or use the traditional funding methods to do it. {In game Ad's}

This is how pretty much 100% of online money is made (prove me wrong?)
1) Advertisement. Put popups in your app, game or website.
2) Premium content: Make viewers pay to access content that can only be accessed through money.
3) Merch: Sell stuff.

Of course im not considering trading and whatnot, but those are offtopic.

that is pretty much what all of them are doing.
they are selling you something more or less. for example i play Dota2 in steam. it is a free game for everyone and you can play it. but every week they sell crap loads of items (cosmetic items like hero's hat, sword , etc) so in fact they are earning money this way from a free game.

p.s. the international 5 funds from buying ticket and... is up to 16 million USD so far :D

A recent trend I am seeing, is games offering online payment through Bitcoin, wants to force users to login via Facebook. {This is also one of those sites}

I do not know if it's related to KYC/AML regulations or if it's a way to farm social media accounts, but it's going against everything Bitcoin stands for. Why do you have to link a person's real identity to his

online gaming account? My kids wanted to play it, until it asked them to login with their facebook account...{For security reasons, according to the error from the site} then they chucked that idea.

Most people do not even want facebook accounts... because it's a platform for bullying amongst some people and a invasion of your privacy.  ???
