Title: Interested in multiple languages of the "we use coins" video. Post by: TangibleCryptography on September 16, 2012, 06:44:37 PM We Us Coins site:
http://www.weusecoins.com/ As of the time of this point the video on youtube has 1,214,172 views: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Um63OQz3bjo While the video isn't perfect (don't let perfect be the enemy of good) it is a great introduction to Bitcoin for the non-technical. Translating this and producing copies in multiple languages would be useful to increase public exposure to Bitcoin. I am not talking about some low quality dub. Based on the quality the original I am going to assume it was produced professionally (voice actor talent, multiple takes, professional sound mixing, etc). Lacking any Audio Video technology we are interested in some feedback on costs and feasibility. Any AV experts have an idea of what it would cost to produce a high quality translated port? If there any interest to crowdfund this. Our company would be willing to provide a financial contribution is we can get some estimates. Generally speaking Bitcoin needs some extensive localization in all aspects. Developers users, and supports who be looking at including foreign language support in clients, services, exchanges, documentation, wiki, etc. Getting the we use coins video to support multiple languages is a good start. The most common languages spoken around the world: 1 ) Mandarin - 935 million 4 ) Hindi - 295 million 5 ) Arabic - 280 million 6 ) Portuguese - 204 million 7 ) Bengali - 202 million 8 ) Russian - 160 million 9 ) Japanese - 127 million 11 ) Wu - 80 million 12 ) Indonesian - 76 million ... 17 ) Korean - 75 million 18 ) French - 73 million ... Thoughts? On edit: Looks like some languages are already supported. Any ideas who produced them or if they would be willing to produce more translations. CC A license would seem to support this kind of project. Title: Re: Is the "we use coins video" public domain? Interested in multiple languages. Guess the low hanging fruit has already been plucked. I guess Mandarin is an obvious next choice for further expansion of translating this video? I see value in all of the remaining top six: Mandarin, Hindustani, Russian, and Arabic. Russian is probably the one which pays the earliest "dividends" but honestly Arabic has some interesting applications. Title: Re: Is the "we use coins video" public domain? Interested in multiple languages. Post by: TangibleCryptography on September 16, 2012, 08:30:57 PM Looks like the video isn't public domain but the CC license appears to allow such translations:

Post by: TangibleCryptography on September 16, 2012, 08:37:44 PM On a similar topic does anyone have knowledge on youtube rankings and optimizations?
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bitcoin The "Introduction to Bitcoin" video despite having lower number of views (50K vs 1.2M) and less "likes" (320 vs 2,181) is the first result from a youtube search on "bitcoin". Noticed that the Intro video has a higher like % (94.6% vs 91.6%) is that the metric? While you are there click anyways drop the we use coins a like if you haven't already. Post by: defxor on September 16, 2012, 08:44:52 PM Reading the license it does look like CC A 3.0 would support translated versions. But of course :) Creative Commons is a set of licenses designed for permissive reasons, by the great Lawrence Lessig. The only CC license that would not support translations would be one including the NoDerivs option (which weusecoins don't use). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/ Also, in many countries there's no such thing as "public domain", mine included, and for us CC0 - Creative Commons Zero - is the most permissive license possible. Interesting. Never considered the fact that some countries don't have a concept like "public domain". Title: Re: Is the "we use coins video" public domain? Interested in multiple languages. Post by: ChrisKoss on October 02, 2012, 12:40:34 AM I have a friend who works for a company that makes flash corporate instructional videos for multinational corporations. He has the contacts to hire voice actors and translators, re-dub, and can even replace the text in the video, if necessary.
I'm still narrowing down exactly what the cost would be, but it looks like it could be ~$1000 per language. Does anyone know where to get the source files for the weusecoins video? This would help keep costs down, because then he could just replace the text, instead of having to do masking to replace it. I'm going to try to get a solid estimate on cost, and then try to raise the funds through crowdfunding on the forum. I'm thinking Mandarin or Russian for the first one. I'll post an update once I get a more precise estimate. Title: Re: Interested in multiple languages of the "we use coins" video. Post by: almwaysa on October 02, 2012, 02:53:16 AM I have done a full translation of the video in arabic, wondering if someone could do the voice over or at least use it as subtitles
