Title: What projects are you most excited about?
Post by: eerygarden on June 25, 2015, 11:24:58 PM
I assume there are a number of ongoing projects under development that I have not heard of. Which projects do you anticipate will be great for the bitcoin community once they are released/completed?

The ones that I have heard about are
  • openbazaar - seems really cool
  • mycelium bitcoin card - i would like to see this in action
  • the twinkletoe twins exchange - meh
  • ethereum - not really sure what it is. Is it an alt coin?

Tell me what you are excited about for the bitcoin community?

i look the most forward to the gemini exchange of the winklevoss brothers. in the long term it can have a great impact on the price. we need better exchanges than the current ones that we have.

Get gems messenger app. Decentralized messaging app that rewards users for growing the network.  Also when fully operational, it will have daily air drops based on usage. Plus, advertisers will pay users direct. It is also a very secure Bitcoin wallet and an easy way to transfer funds.

Basically it's bitcoin's killer app.

I'm by far the most excited about Mycelium's Bitcoin Card - provided that it allows you to broadcast transactions without the need of carrying another device (smartphone). We need cheap, simple and secure hardware solutions that provide instant Bitcoin use. Having a tiny card that allows you initiate Bitcoin payments anytime is imho a "killer app".

That said another project I'm very excited about is BitSIM - a smart SIM that you can use in any 2G-cellphone for doing Bitcoin transactions. If this project materializes, it might be the first serious competitor for Africa's established mobile payments solutions.

i hope it will be big, and not only a niche market, like every other project for bitcoin...

The same projects as Ethereum is progressing and has a test net and Maidsafe storage as well openbazaar is also an interesting idea and the only other ones I am aware of were Counterparty and Mastercoin.

the only event that is going to excite me nowadays about bitcoin like what Amph said, is if some big markets like Amazon or Ebay start accepting bitcoin.
but so far i am interested in openbazzar and what to see how that turns out.

For me there is several , the hardware wallet CryptoLabs "Case" (the design is just epic) . Also Darkwallet which still need funding and I guess it will be available on 2016 if they get their funding (the sooner the better) ;D
OpenBazaar would be also good because there isn't a lot of shops that really accepts Bitcoins and have shitload of items like Amazon & eBay does .

Probably OpenBazaar providing it stays legal & doesn't go down the Silk Road route (I'm not bothered by drugs or anything like that but it bring us negative attention).
We need something respected & legit that can be used online by the mainstream, hopefully OpenBazaar that be that.

I'm kind of excited by the Gemini Exchange, rightly or wrongly I think it can give the price a massive boost, it's nothing like GBTC. GBTC is Gemini's less well known, poorer cousin. The Winklevoss's will succeed with their BTC related investments, it's just a matter of time.

Also not a project but I'm eagerly awaiting the halving next year ✔

Also, i'm interested with BitFury to Release Light Bulbs that Mine Bitcoin in 2015 (http://www.coindesk.com/bitfury-light-bulbs-mine-bitcoin/)
It would be cool have bulb which can mining bitcoin

oh man i forget it, i mean about bitfury, do you really think that in the next years it will be possible? can you imagine it? your house with all the lights on? haha

btw the proyect that im most excited is openbazaar, for me this will be the beginningof the best market ever ;)

Yeah, I hear this a lot about Gemini. I dunno though. The exchanges that I have used seem pretty good. All that needs to improve for me is being able to instantly credit your exchange account with FIAT with zero fees. Will it be able to do this? All I hear is that it will bring an air of respectability because two guys who were represented poorly in the movie, 'The Social Network', are behind it.

meh

Personally I only tend to text message my wife, my mum and the fish monger. Very seldom do I text others. Is that the kind of thing it is? Like whatsapp but decentralised? Also, what are 'air drops'?

Ethereum is an effort to create a better bitcoin, one that is highly programmatic, making it much more dynamic. It is quite interesting - and yes we could call it another altcoin, but they got some pretty awesome people on Ethereum team. The Ethereum project has good intentions. This project may be picked by some companies for its commercial use.

Aye, I am in agreement. It sounds great. It's familiar with people too. We are used to using credit cards to transact with. Making something that fits in your wallet that functions well and securely will be a big deal. I read that it will work outside of the blockchain though, which I am not too sure about, but I am intrigued for sure.

Thanks for sharing BitSIM, I shall have a google. Do you think it will be useful outside of Africa?

The Mercury project is exciting. It's a fully trustless decentralized cryptocurrency exchange that's being developed. It's only being held up by a lack of testers and the fact all the coins it will use need to implement OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY because without it the exchange would be vulnerable to TX malleability attacks.

I share your sentiments. Ebay and Amazon must be the biggest two players for e-commerce at the moment. Open Bazaar has the potential to create a whole new industry and take e-commerce with it. May I propose we call it BTCe-commerce? You heard it here first.

no, seriously, i'm having project that involves laserguns, but it's for egniting my bbq and personel fun, no burning papermoney lol
serious now, i'm waiting to see how mybitmine 2.0 is becoming
that openbazaar seems interesting and ofcourse the implementation of bitcoin on amazon and ebay, altough i don't use amazon so much, but would be awsome for the users of both.
i also see other names and sites mentionned here before my post, curious and checking them out aswell :)

I just took a look at Case, so many thanks for sharing that. This looks good. In the video they say it fits in your wallet. It looks a little too fat for me. Who knows in practice it might be ok, but it does look too chunky for your wallet at the moment. A bitcoin wallet that fits in your wallet is needed in my opinion and it is good to see that there are people trying to make this.

One thing I noticed when the lady presented how to send a transaction was that she didn't punch in an amount that you need to send. Presumably you need to do this still.

On the other hand, I think the mycelium wallet app for android can do a lot of this more conveniently.

For me, it's definitely the ETF and talking about it, I'm just wondering why it took so long to launch. Although the flow of investment fund is one thing, what mattersmost is actually the recognition part especially with the SEC. That could somehow change people's perception that they are having towards bitcoin.

Don't waste time on stupidity.  Just go buy a BlockErupter on Ebay for $5.  It does exactly the same thing as a BitFury light bulb (i.e. makes a very extremely tiny amount of bitcoin) except it doesn't make light, which is totally unneeded for getting bitcoin.

BitFury lightbulb and 21e6 are the dumbest things to come to bitcoin since inception.  If Bitcoin returns to $1200, all bets are off.

For the success of openbazaar, it needs huge marketing and adaptation as it already has a huge market competition. For huge adaption like amazon and ebay, it needs to be backed by another strong company. Maybe it could team up with other e commerce websites in its native country to boost function and adaption.

Have you guys heard of Bitreserve? It might not be on the same level of awesome as some of the other projects but I think it's a real nice addition to the Bitcoin ecosystem. It basically allows you to store your Bitcoin as a currency (you can choose between USD and 7 others) to protect against fluctuations. And you can move your money between the different currencies as well free of charge which is cool.

Have a look here : https://bitreserve.org/en/homepage

1. OpenBazaar

2. ETF

3. Bitcoin: The End of Money As We Know It (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUF6klWuB38) documentary. According to the producer Torsten Hoffman (https://vimeo.com/114289116), the documentary should get approx 100M views worldwide. It will help a lot the education of mainstream users and hopefully change the bad narrative people have over bitcoin.

For me openbazaar, the decentralized "ebay" can give bitcoin a nice boost.
But i think the condition that it will be popular is only that every illegal things are forbidden to sell.
Or it will end like Silk Road.
But i have a good feeling, they get also 1 Million dollar more last week, so that they will hire now more people.

I'm biased of course, but I'm most excited to finally start promoting eMunie properly in the coming months and really get into the guts of explaining what it can do and how.

Basically eMunie is all of the above mentioned in this thread but on steroids, including all new ledger and consensus tech, which outperforms anything being developed at the moment with regard to speed, efficiency & security, and the jewel in the crown, a self regulated elastic economy to promote price stability.

Other than that I'm interested to see what will come of Ethereum, an ambitious and interesting project for sure, but doesn't strike me as a technology that will penetrate the mainstream any time soon.

I've also been keeping tabs on MaidSafe, and very interested to see POS Bitcoin/crypto solutions start to roll out (real debit cards, POS system integration etc)

Stuff thats already out there, of course I want to see where Bitcoin goes, but I also keep tabs on Nxt.  The Nxt guys have a serious bag of feature candy and a serious lack of adoption, would like to see them push more in that direction than just making new features that no one uses.

I've been watching ascribe.io which gives provenance and transfers ownership to digital property, and now Verisart which does similar things for real world art objects. I like these 2 projects because they are great real world use cases for bitcoin. these markets, even though they are niche, could also be very very large. (art sales is in billions annually not to mention things such as protecting copywritten digital media... also worth billions.

but I emphasize the "Real World Use Cases" aspect. these both present real problems that btc solves easily and cheaply.

I think this is out July 14th. Not long now.

it is available at vimeo now for $5.49 https://vimeo.com/ondemand/bitcoin

It wont get 100m views if a price remains.

Agreed
You can't even pay with btc

Decentralized exchanges.

Same, but I'm more interested in decentralized markets like open bizarre. I'm also most excited about just certain industries getting involved with bitcoin such as the remittance market. Why they haven't adopted it yet is beyond me but I believe they will at some point and this will grow over time. At least I hope so any way.

Charing people more to use bitcoin? That isn't right. It should be less if anything. Didn't they crowndfund it anyway? Should release it on torrents so they can spread it like bitcoin for free  :D.
