Title: The Definitive Beginner's Guide to Buying Bitcoins
Post by: ofirbeigel on June 29, 2015, 09:47:59 AM
I've just spent over 14 hours compiling the definitive beginner's guide to buying Bitcoins (https://99bitcoins.com/the-definitive-beginners-guide-to-buying-bitcoins/).

In the guide I go over the following:

* The different types of wallets and how to choose the best one for your needs.
* The different types of payment methods used to buy Bitcoins (pros and cons)
* The different types of Bitcoin exchanges (pro and cons)
* Step by step guide to buying Bitcoins at 4 different exchanges
* 3 hacks to buying Bitcoins with Paypal
* How to avoid fraud when dealing with strangers

The guide is completely free of course. I'd like to continue and develop this guide over time so if you think there's something missing from it any feedback would be gladly appreciated. There's also a PDF version (https://3s1shj19s0di2dovmhkw15h1-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/The_Definitive_Beginners_Guide_to_Buying_Bitcoins.pdf) if you prefer.

Nice idea, I actually have a Bitocin wallet comparison page (https://99bitcoins.com/best-bitcoin-wallet-2015-bitcoin-wallets-comparison-review/) which does something of sorts.

AFAIK Bitcoin Core, Electrum, Armory, Multibit, Green Address is Cold Wallet.
Blockchain wallet is having a trouble recently, and they are removed on bitcoin.org wallet list, check here: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

And don't mark coinbase is the best wallet, because this is hot wallet.

I guess the defenition of "cold" depends on whether your device is connected to the internet or not. The can all be cold or hot wallets, but I will make this clearer. Coinbase is marked "best" since it's the easiest for newbies to get a hold on (although I should add Circle in there as well).

Good work, I'll defo give you an A for effort, it still needs some minor tuning, I think the wallet section should include desktop wallets and the importance of using one, although newbies will be inclined to use coinbase or blockchain or other web wallets I think they should still be informed of risks of using one and benefits of using desktop wallets like electrum etc.. over the web wallets. I see you have included a link for comparisons between the various wallets but the guide should emphasize on security more than just ease of use.

Also, I think you should do a detailed how to of how to purchase using localbitcoins, as this exchange is more widely used worldwide and one can use it to not just purchase using cash but other options such as Western Union/Moneygram.

Still great hard work from you and thanks for doing this, I will post it on my twitter soon. :)

Thanks for the feedback, I guess I'll need to restructure my comparison page. Also thanks for the tweet.

Great job! It's so detailed, organized, and well-done for a free guide; even for a paid one. I've read through most of it and I've found some things that I didn't know. :P

Great information and the website is very engaging and user friendly. If your information were in a post it should be "stickied" at the top of this thread. Maybe someone can get the link to your guide added to the Newbie Read Me thread.

this. Even I appreciate effort of OP to write down something like this, generally majority these days don't want to study guides and reads dozens of pages. they just want easy to understand, fast and trustworthy service with friendly GUI and fast reacting customer support. nothing else.
