Extra costs

---

• We may need to pay VAT to import the note's into The Netherlands, which is the largest extra cost we have. VAT is currently at 21% and the average import cost is at 4%.
• The disbursement fee of the used postal service (UPS charges €11.25, PostNL €13, EMS €17,50, etc.). This only applies if we need to pay VAT.
• The bubblewrapped envelopes. €4 for 10 pieces.

Terms

---

• The group buy won't happen if not at least 5 notes are ordered.
• The group buy will be closed, for new participants, when we hit 20 notes or on the 13th of July. Whatever comes first.
• Once the group buy is closed for new participants the final price will be determined and split between the participants.
• Any BTC that is left over (because we didn't need to pay VAT, the BTC value went up, etc) will be evenly distributed between the participants.
• If we are somehow short of BTC, I'll cover it up front. The amount of BTC that has to be paid will be evenly distributed between participants. Your package won't be sent if you don't pay your part of the debt. If you don't pay at all, your mote will be auctioned off to cover the cost and any leftovers are kept.
• Terms can be changed at any moment, so please keep track of them (important announcement will be posted in the thread).

Welcome to the group buy. Do you want to get your Note shipped or do you want to meetup somewhere? I travel from Hengelo to Amsterdam almost every weekend (by train), so a little detour isn't a big deal.

I see that you're basing this on your Kialara thread. However, I don't see why there'd be a need to pay any import tax as these shouldn't really have a high marked value on the shipping label.
Could you please clarify this? Thanks :)

It all depends on what BG4 puts on the label and if the customs open the package. Even if BG4 were to put a low number on the package, the customs could still open it, see strange notes and decide to Google their price. The value of 1 note is already over the allowed import value of my country, so it is something we should consider possible.

21% sounds like a lot, I know, but if 10 people buy 10 notes, than it's "just" €6.60. And if they don't check the package, you get your money back.

As far as I know, they don't allow me to pick note numbers. I'll be sending the notes out as random as possible or I could do an auction on the numbers once I know which ones we get. Whatever you guys want, I'm open to ideas. ;D

Probably fairer to give the lowest number to whoever put their name down first then on from there ( after your good self of course for organising the group buy :P ).

Any problem with international shipping of the low 10 paper wallets?

You said you would not ship them outside USA in case one get lost or something

1 made it to Australia with no problems.... Was  packed to take a beating tho......plus tracked it the whole way there.... It was a wake up call with all the paperwork that had to go with it.....

Australian customs are a pain in the ass. The Dutch customs shouldn't be a problem.

As I've said before, there shouldn't be a problem with the customs but if they, for some strange reason, do open it, they will find a strange looking note which they will most likely Google it (and thus find out that one of them is worth $35). It's just a precaution.

I doubt they are that motivated, especially now that they are on strike ;D

I've seen situations like this before when group buys get a few early takers then after a while people start dropping out for one reason or another, I'd hate for that to happen here because its taking a while to fill the slots.

By the way, you could save on shipping.  I'm almost every weekend close to Amsterdam (30 minutes with the bus), so we could meet up if you want.

With this series the public and private encryped keys are pre printed. The password for the private encrypted key is a random number between 100 million and 500 trillion salted with date and time  and printed as a 10 digit HEX number

The Hex password is preprinted on the note and is entered into bitaddress.org to encrypt the private key..... after printing the keys, the note is removed from the printer and the password is checked with whats on the screen a final time . Then and a scratch off sticker is placed with the help of printed landmarks over the password ... then the process is repeated...  The 100 Prints plus some over prints took about  3 hours non stop to complete... no keys or passwords are recorded or can be looked up for future verification.

Then a self destructing hologram is used to cover and protect the scratch off... It is then printed over with a tamper evident printed graphics that overlaps the hologram , and onto the paper... making hologram tampering extreamly difficult without detection.


If you are uneasy with using the preprinted key on the note. I suggest funding the address with a few bits to register the note to the blockchain and use the NFC tag... that is on the back with Greenaddress.it's android app for easy login,  essential making the Satoshi note an HD paper wallet with an unlimited number of user supplied keys.

This is just one use for the NFC tag.  There are many others and even more undiscovered..

Papersafe Satoshi notes are shipped with the NFC tag programmed with Trustpoint's BlackSeal authentication app for anticounterfieting verification... A cryptographic signed message stored on the tag verifies that PaperSafe.org  programmed the tag and can not be cloned.

No shipping to North America?

I believe that BG4 (the creater of these beautiful pieces of art) is actually based in North America and that the purpose of this group buy is to save on shipping costs.

You would probably be able to save a little bit on shipping (and have a lower overall cost) by buying by BG4 directly.

BG4 is based in the USA, so contacting him to get it shipped somewhere in North America is a lot less expensive than if I do it. This group buy is for the EU only and is the only way for us to get one of them (as BG4 normally only ships in the USA).

I don't know if greenaddress.it has a iPhone app... the tag is big enough to store an ascii version of the public address and an unencrypted private key.... also if you fund the address with a few bits..The block the transaction is on , you can use that blocks nonce as a password for your own encrypted private key...it's just another way to use a PaperSafe key but not use the key to store a large amount of funds....

Yeah, I've been thinking about that as well. It's possible that I can't ship these till the end of august. I'll see what I can do, because everyone should get these as quickly as possible.

How come?

Starting today I'll be at my GF (and I don't really like giving up her address), after which I'll visit my dad in Germany and go on vacation to Spain. I'll be busy all summer long. I'll ask my GF if she minds if I gave BG4 her address and if she does, I'll just send them to my home address and pick them up before I go to my dad and send them out before I go to Spain (which is two weeks apart, so that should be easily possible). Everything depends on how fast BG4 ships.

Well I thought group buys were meant to make things cheaper but the extras are bringing it to 2x the price of the item. The payment..

Group buys can make things cheaper if you get discounts for buying in bulk (Ravenbit). They are also handy if you need to purchase a certain amount before they ship outside of the USA (Kialara's). This group buy is, sadly, the only way to get the "PaperSafe - Satoshi Note" outside the USA and the extra costs are mostly precautions. VAT and disbursement fees are only paid if the Dutch customs check my package and decide I need to pay VAT over it and there is a 2% increase in the total price to account for price swings (for example, I sell the BTC cheap, to pay for shipping, and need to rebuy it at a higher rate). However, all leftovers will be returned and, to be honest, it's quite likely that there will be leftovers.

I'm sorry if you perceived it in any other way, because of how I presented it.

I'd rather pay a little extra and get a refund afterwards ;D. Tbh, I've order a lot of things from outside Europe (also in bulk) and I have never had to pay VAT (or anything similar). Maybe I was just lucky :P. Did you have to pay VAT during the last Kialara group buy?

Well it is not dubbel. 35 dollar = 1,2 BTC. Don't forget the costs for posting from us and also in europe.
Also I think Mitchell should build in some margin to cover costs (vat, service, unexpected).

I had to pay VAT for all my previous Kialara group buys. However, I never had to pay any VAT over my China phones. The customs are extremely strange over here.

Shipping from BG4 to me is free as we got 10 notes in total, but yes, a lot of it is buffer against VAT, price swings, etc.

I didn't get an angry text and Track&Trace says delivered, so I'm going to assume that I didn't have to pay VAT. I won't know for sure until I'm back home. It could be that they delivered it at a postal office.

If you don't feel comfortable loading with alot, That is fine...and understandable....  but I would have wished people would load a few bits or satoshis loaded on them to register them to the block chain  with the public key...  In the end, The choice is yours

By the way, the notes have been shuffled by my GF and I before being assigned to someone. I've no idea who gets which number, as we didn't look. I decided that this was the best way to deal with this matter.
