Title: #EarnBitcoin
Post by: flix on July 05, 2015, 09:22:15 PM
It is already easy to spend BTC. It is becoming easier to buy and sell BTC.

To close the cycle and have a real Bitcoin economy we really need some way for millions of people to be able to earn BTC.

Thankfully there is a simple way to achieve that:

https://www.fiverr.com/   millions of gigs, already takes Bitcoin for funding (via Coinbase)

https://www.uber.com    Over 1 million drivers worldwide      (works with Braintree/Paypal)

https://www.airbnb.com/  34.000 cities, over 1 million listings (works with Braintree/Paypal)

https://www.freelancer.com/  15 million users. 8 million projects. (works with Paypal)

If we can get just these 4 to do Bitcoin payouts for contractors, it will give access to millions worldwide to earning BTC. Anyone with a house, a car or able to work will be able to #EarnBitcoin.

The payment processors are already in contact with these companies and have been offering the option to receive Bitcoin payments... how hard can it be to offer the option of Bitcoin withdrawals/payouts?

Breaking traditions, the false trustworthyness of the banking system and change closed minds who stopped in time is pretty hard ;) But we'll get there soon.

It's not that hard, because we have BitPay  ;)

It doesn't. Yet.

On the seller side, it’s business as usual. Revenue is earned and withdrawn in US dollars. The option to withdraw revenue in Bitcoin is currently not available on Fiverr.

Great find there i didn't know there was already something like that out, look like bitwage is a pretty cool tool for payrolls, so mostly likely for companies that want to go decentralized with their payrolls this would be a great choice.

I hope to see this too.  It is sort of a catch 22, we won't see wages in bitcoins until we have wider adoption, but paying in bitcoins would make for wider adoption.  It seems to be getting some nice media attention with the  Greece thing, so you never know what is on the horizon.

Sounds like a good idea, I think there was a subreddit that had you do jobs for btc as well. Maybe combine them together and get a twitter rally going?

This is my hope for the outcome of the Greek situation. They can't really buy BTC because they can't really get their hands on cash. Thief best option is to accept BTC for payment of goods and services, which will in turn enter the ecosystem when spent.
We still need a huge injection of BTC into Greece in the first place. Too bad TBF is useless as it is corrupt and bankrupt. They could have sparked a revolution.

We can pay for uber rides with bitcoin?!?! How do we do that? You have to set up your payment method prior to the ride... I didn't know bitcoin was an option!

And how about earning opportunities for a few people to earn millions, rather than millions of people earning a fe BTC, any ideas?

I don't know that you can yet.. but it should be a matter of months. Uber works with Braintree:

Only if bitcoin was a little more stable I'm sure more conservative companies will make the step to join the ecosystem, either their CEO plays in the bank sector or they are to scare of the bitcoin price changin or tax regulation issues, then again by us just sending an email to the companies to accepted bitcoin would help a bit. #EarnBitcoin

Instead of waiting why don't you call Steam and tell them that people want to pay with bitcoin, that more people will buy more games if bitcoin is a payment option. Maybe start a poll on this forum and then share it with people at Steam. Companies will chase the money...

We should not forget that Bitcoin makes international trade so much easier. So it's always a good idea to help existing webshop owners adopting Bitcoin. Getting small businesses to adopt Bitcoin is a double-win, because they provide services for Bitcoin and might at the same time (as individuals) become users of Bitcoin.

That's what I'm talking about, the discount price.
And by the way, some country have a cheaper price for a Steam game. Those are the country that have a restricted redeemable key.

I think the issue with these companies and why they don't yet use Bitcoin to payout their workers is because of the exchange of Bitcoin - fiat. While you can fund your Fiverr account with Bitcoin the person doing the job might want or not to take bitcoin. If he/she did want BTC it wouldn't be a problem, but since they probably want dollars it becomes a headache for the intermediary (in this case Fiverr, Uber, ...) to deal with the exhcanges. It's possible. In fact, they could benefit from the exchange rates - but I suspect that that is the reason they don't offer it (yet).

They don't have to deal with exchanges.. that's what payment processors are for.

If Uber wants to accept Bitcoin payments, all they have to do is activate their Coinbase connection so that when somebody sends them bitcoins, Coinbase automatically exchanges it and Uber gets dollars. Same thing with Bitpay.

For payouts it is just the reverse: User wants bitcoins, Uber sends dollars to Coinbase, Coinbase exchanges and sends bitcoins to user's Bitcoin address.

The technical issues are simple and have been resolved long ago. My guess on why they do not do this, yet, is the perceived lack of demand. Big companies like Uber and Airbnb see too few Bitcoin users to make it worth their while. That will change.... especially as they expand to 70+ countries where Paypal is unavailable and credit cards are not widespread.

it is a price you have to pay if you want to be able to buy your steam games with bitcoin, you do not get the fancy sale prices but do contribute to the bitcoin economy. It might cost extra, but it would benefit the bitcoin as a whole to grow and thus make your coins grow too. And yes, just like the $ 2m pizza, you might end up having a steam game that when looking back would have cost you even more if you did HODL those coins, but the coins will never go anywhere if we all hold them, you cannot reach the moon if you hold the rocket back.

I think Bitcoin will only gain major traction for payments when merchants give discount incentives for using it. But they don't. Why would anyone spend extra money to buy BTC only to be paying the same amount if they used a credit card or paypal?

It has to have consistent discounts in the first place for people to consider it valuable to by, and not just hold, but to actually use.

Since Bitcoin does save transaction money, then part of those savings should be given back to the consumer. Things should always be cheaper with BTC.

There are people who are making claims, that Bitcoin adoption reduce sales.

See this thread on Reddit ---> https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/3flrz9/is_blizzard_ever_going_to_accept_bitcoin_as_a/

The thing is.. these businesses accept Bitcoin as a payment method, and only a few people support them, and then they withdraw their support for it.

We need to have a active drive to contantly support businesses who accept Bitcoin payments.  ;)

I think that to get big companies to consider bitcoin, we should use it more.

Many people only use it as a stock/inversion/way to earn "real" money, or to do/receive small tipping here and there, then exchanging it for money.

More bitcoin selling/buying is needed I think.

https://www.uber.com    Over 1 million drivers worldwide      (works with Braintree/Paypal)

https://www.airbnb.com/  34.000 cities, over 1 million listings (works with Braintree/Paypal)

https://www.freelancer.com/  15 million users.

I'm wondering are any users here who tried these sites already? How much can you earn say in a week? I mean some real examples, I know we all can be millionaires if work hard. )

It depends on your skills what do you offer to others.
You can create mobile application and work as a freelancer in these sites.
Then you can offer video editing, voice over in fiver and many other things, it depends on how much you are popular and the income will be increased

I don't think Bitcoin adoption will advance among merchants until their customers have bitcoin to spend-- so that's the part of the puzzle that I think needs the most work.

How will an ordinary person, going about their everyday business of living their life, obtain some bitcoin? Or what will motivate them to go out of their way to get some?

I don't know the answer, but until there IS an answer I think pushing more merchant adoption for brick&mortar merchants will be mostly a waste of time (there's a better case to be made for online merchants who want to sell their products to a worldwide audience).

Content creators have complete control over how their work is published with several different monetization options. Only the publisher has the power to remove her/his content from the library.

I have been reading into a little bit about joystream in the past and is a really cool sounding concept and could probably work if more people get interested in earning bitcoin by sharing bandwidth.  But as I know of right now, they are still in Beta and I think they aren't paying out in bitcoin just yet, and instead using testnet coins or something of the sort? Last time I check, they haven't really posted much info about it on their home page.

Its been like this with no large services accepting Bitcoin openly. I think we need some big media attention grabbing event before it takes off. This will get exciting after that.

More sites will be accepting Bitcoins as payment as soon as more people take interest in paying in Bitcoins.

The thing about OpenBazaar is that, because it is FOSS, devs will be able to fork and modify it to make a P2P Uber, Airbnb and a ton of other specific apps... P2P eBay is just the first of many.

I really wish the Jobs4bitcoin subreddit was a bit more active, and offered some more low skill kind of jobs. I mean, it's just so easy to browse through and it would be even better if there were like 20 new offers per day.
Now if you're lucky there are like 10 offers per week..

It's almost a year and a half since this has been posted and the only fiverr has adopted bitcoin as a payment method (I'm not so sure still, please correct if I am wrong). I think the Bitcoin network must offer these services and products something that would change their minds in adopting Bitcoin as a payment method. In my opinion, what is missing is the adoption not by services but by its consumers. If we can influence more than 10% of the total customer base of these services, maybe we can pitch bitcoin to these services. Because if these services do not see that their clients will not use Bitcoins as payment methods, then there is a greater possibility that these services will adopt Bitcoins.

Fiver and freelance is not that easy to earn, it really requires luck and effort to earn it. I would suggest signature campaign as a far more effective method rest i feel are slow or difficult to earn. So I think you should add signature campaign also. Rest is faucet site and get few, 100 refs then only one can earn.

It may be effective for places with low costs of living or as a side job, but for anyone who actually needs to earn something in some decent capacity freelancing and Fiverr aren't necessarily bad ideas. Freelancing can definitely make people money, and it takes more time and skills as opposed to luck. It's like working a real job here and there.

Well bitcoin has made possible into the online world to maximize your free time doing some task, as well making and use your skill as developer and creator, those websites are examples of what bitcoin has made for good for all people wich does use and have bitcoin. This should be recognized, we people traded bitcoin, that bringed altcoins, and we do give value to our time and we arent unable to manage our own money.
