Title: Best Web Wallet?
Post by: wampum on July 07, 2015, 11:28:46 PM
What is the best (secure, easy to use, open, free, etc) web wallet out there currently?

Blockchain.info is the most commonly used one.

There is no secure web wallet, and blockchain.info is the absolute worst currently operating (if you can even call what it does horrifically, "operating").

ITT: People trying to weasel out of responsibility for their own indefensible words, and getting me to wrestle with them over their own indefensible words.

I am reminded of the proverb: "Never wrestle with a pig - you'll both get dirty, and the pig will love it."

How many BTC have to be lost to blockchain.info wallet use before.you.just.stop? 21 million?

"blockchain.info" should not have been mentioned whatsoever in the "Best Web Wallet?" topic - only in a "WORST web wallet?" topic.

Shame on everyone quoted below for recommending/suggesting/advising economic suicide (the volume of BTC loss from the wallet site below is the highest, above any/all other web wallets currently operating)...

Blockchain.info is the most commonly used one.

Just like others said, If you want to use an online wallet you should try using blockchain.info wallet.

The best BTC Web wallet is http://blockchain.info (http://blockchain.info)  ;D There are some others Web wallets too, but blockchain is most popular walet  ;)

blockchain.info is imho the best one

I think the best web wallet is blockhain.info

blockchain.info is the only one you should really use

many people said it is blockchain.info
it has good online wallet

for me is blockchain.info is the best web wallet

Blockchain.info is the most popular

The best web wallet for me is Blockchain.info

Shame on everyone quoted above for recommending/suggesting/advising economic suicide (the volume of BTC loss from the wallet site above is the highest, above any/all other web wallets currently operating).

Although blockchain.info is commonly used, the wallet is pretty subpar. There are a lot of issues with the wallet, and the site has historically not performed well at certain times. Your best choice is to stay away from Web wallets.

I haven't used different wallets to tell which is the best, but i have used only Coinbase when i started at the beginning and haven't had any issue since then. You can enable 2 factor authentication to protect better your wallet. There were some delay in confirming the transactions these days but wasn't Coinbase fault. So from my experience i prefer to suggest you Coinbase.

I have been using xapo.com - I think it is great you can make more then one wallet and put 2 auth on one wallet and make the other wallet a hot wallet.

It has no fees to sending to other xapo members (which is great since faucet sites will pay instantly to xapo members)

I have not had any problems

Blockchain.info is the most commonly used one.

Blockchain.info is the most popular one but I do not think it's most secure. Have a look at its history:

Do you mean there are even no bitcoin transaction fees?

Just like others said, If you want to use an online wallet you should try using blockchain.info wallet. But you do not have any security guaranteed. No online wallet can keep your coins secure.

Best download your own wallet and use it.

I'm not sure, but you can try BitGo and Green Address, their have more security feature than other web wallet.
A lot complain about blockchain.info wallet, and they removed from bitcoin.org wallet list. For more info: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

ahh, generally is not so smart to use web wallets at all. there are wallets for phones (IOS, Android) and light ones (multibit, electrum..) for any flavor of OS and I don't see any reason to use web one at all..

Anyway, to answer you question, blockchain.info is imho the best one..but again, only between web wallets and with at least 2FA and notifications enabled.

Why no one mentioned Cryptonator?
Are they not legit company? I think they are from either US or Russia. Only spoke to their support once(outsourced?), they were definitely from US either San Francisco or Miami.

blockchain.info is the only one you should really use if you have to use a web wallet but remember there are limitations and certain security issues with web wallets. also you can only have 100 addresses on there so if you are opening a bitcoin business its impractical

many people said it is blockchain.info
it has good online wallet, and have mobile wallet that connected to main wallet too
if you want to make transaction with small amount of bitcoin, just try that
but if you want to make bigger transaction, i suggest you to try wallets like electrum / multibit

Probably, this will be an additional question from OP since I am looking for web wallet , I am using buggy web wallets right now , blockchain and backslash, due to my slow internet connection I don't use bitcoin core.
I found these web wallets listed on bitcoin.org , which one is the best ?,
- Green address - Coinkite - Coinbase -Bitgo - Coinapult - Hive - Xapo and - Circle

Just quoting a part of our post and leaving us neutral trust feedback and making us look guilty? Please quote our warning too and help him choose a wallet.

It will also be helpful for him (and most new people on forum) if you explain him why web wallets are not secure enough instead of quoting us and writing a four word sentence (spam?).

Thanks  :)

Edit: So far I remember that you posted (I hope my memory isn't betraying me) in this thread saying something like this "blockchain.info is the best online wallet /sarcasm" along with an image. You were obviously being sarcastic. But I wonder why would you remove that?

Good stuff.  I get that they aren't the most secure but they are much easier for people to use because it is more "normal" for them as they enter the bitcoin world.  Are there any open source web wallets you all would recommend?   Thanks for the feedback!

mate, what is unclear on general statements posted everywhere "do not use web wallet" ? there is really no reason for risk it, you can have your wallet literally everywhere (on every device or OS platform), so why you want to use web services?

Traditional wallets are complicated for newbies, very difficult adoption...we are just trying to make it easier for our users.  What do you think of this one?  https://github.com/OmniLayer/omnicore

of course, but in I meant best one of worst platform - web (pls see context and stop snipping just what you like) you are marking everybody because of recommending blockchain? uhh, so those guys will also be marked? oh really?

blockchain info is the best you can get, and the most trusted

I would say use Blockchain.info, like people say this is by far the most trusted and do offer this service. But it is best to always be careful!

Xialla,
I have pmed him and he replied saying that he was trying to dissuade people  from "committing economic suicide"(I still can't find the relation between this and only quoting a part of our words"). Again according to him "When you put recommendations/suggestions/advice to commit economic suicide next to a warning, guess what part people ignore? The warning." But yet he Quotes our suggestion and then gives a "warning". What a genius, right?

Another thing was that he sarcastically said that OP should use blockchain.info online wallet which he removed it before giving us that feedback. TheButterZone, like i said in PM. Some people don't understand sarcasm. So you are putting them on risk. But you finally came to your sense(maybe?) and removed your post. And then you started quoting us, giving us no chance to mend/remove our post and then leave a feedback. Well played.

Posting the following quote which he pmed me  for reference. He clearly states the post which he removed.

I'm using 2 different routes in an attempt to deter people from committing economic suicide:
1) Quoting replies in the topic where economically suicidal recommendations/suggestions/advice was given
2) Leaving neutral trust feedback with a link DIRECTLY to the replies where economically suicidal recommendations/suggestions/advice was given

When you put recommendations/suggestions/advice to commit economic suicide next to a warning, guess what part people ignore? The warning.

When I decided on the 2 routes, I removed this redundancy/moron bait, according to my drafts (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=drafts):

Code:
You should definitely use an online wallet that is all but guaranteed to result in you losing your [btc]! blockchain.info!

[IMG]http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/w465/JB5613/SARCASM_max600_zps3fd57182.jpg[/img]

Edit: He replied me through PM.

Okay. So according to you when someone or "me" put recommendations/suggestions/advice to commit economic suicide next to a warning they ignore the part where they have been warned about something related to that  advice(source? I tried googling but found nothing). But looks like OP is now cautious and well informed about the risk after we warned him. So you are wrong. People do read warnings.

You still haven't clearly answered my question. Why do you have to remove your post where you "sarcastically recommended him to use blockchain.info online wallet"?(Some poeple don't understand sarcasm, you do know that right?)

I can't find any link between "You using 2 different routes" and removing your post.

By the way "suggest" and "recommend" are not the same. Suggest means giving an idea doing about something in general where one is not obliged to do so. Where as “recommend” means telling someone that a certain option is the best one available with no alternative.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/thesaurus/suggest

Quote
Synonyms counsel, recommend, suggest

Bye.

Replied just like most of his post with a single word. Still not saying why he removed his post before giving us that feedback.

Edit:
Xialla, good thing you found them. Haven't marked them yet. Will be waiting. :) Edit: Yup marked them now.

Edit: He changed his feedback with more twisted words saying that we told OP "to use the wallet anyway" through which he is trying to imply that we never warned him.

According to TheButterZone if someone says "Hitler did nothing wrong being a vegetarian" he will assume and quote "Hitler did nothing wrong" and start leaving misleading feedbacks.

Hi TheButterZone.

I'm not promoting Blockchain.info wallet, i say is the best for me and i will tell you why and my experience with other wallets.

The first question is; For what you use more your wallet?, and my answer is "To bet in onchain games (I will not put the names because i don't want you think i'm promoting gambling sites now  ;) )"... that games where you send some btc and get the bet result direct on your wallet.

I start with bitcoin-qt, i install it and it take some days to load all the bitcoin chain... when i send some bets with bitcoin-qt i see that i need to way the transaction confirms to be able to spend again the btc, but the problem wasn't that. When i create more addy's i wasn't be able to choice the addy where i want to send the bitcoins from, There must be a way to do it, but i never found it  :-\

Then i change to Multibit, It load faster, and i was able to handle the addys one by one, great wallet but i found 2 problem with it for my onchain gambling, i need to wait the bitcoins confirm to spend it again, and was hard to import a private key on the wallet.

Then i decide to test Blockchain.info, with this wallet i can easy import my vanitygen addys, and i was able to spend unconfirmed bitcoins, that give me a better gambling experience and when i make my first bot for an onchain gambling site i use the blockchain API. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=806051.0)

Just look how easy is send btc with the appy from curl:

Code:
curl "https://blockchain.info/es/merchant/$gu/payment?password=$pas&to=$addy=$BTCy"

I know you are an old forum user and a trusted one TheButterZone, and as old bitcoin user you must know a lot of bitcoin and wallets... i'm 1.5 years old on bitcoin world, and i still learning all days.

I know this replay will be much better to this community, is just me sharing my point of view, this is not an
absolute truth, it's my experience with wallets and will be nice to read yours.
