Title: Something for Nothing ???
Post by: WEB slicer on July 08, 2015, 10:47:13 AM
sorry guys, ad blocking software really makes me doubt this business model.

This is definitely very unusual if you ask me. One can't usually find people that will give things out for free, especially if it's worth a few hundred dollars.
I definitely would like to have such a console one day. However, I'm not sure if I would reveal personal information that nobody knows for the chance of receiving the console. There's really no guarantee that you will send it, is there?

So what's the deal with this?

unusual indeed. i'm sure many will doubt me. but if you look at my trust you can see i am reputable. it's hard to say much at this point. but i can say this is not a joke. somebody will get an xbox one. it will not cost you anything. i will even pay the shipping. this is part of an idea i had and i want to test the response i get to such an offer.

Sorry, 2 trust ratings is not something that I would call reputable (even though I trust Vod). I would definitely love to have one, but a third party would have to send it to me. There's no way that I would transact directly.
I'm going to assume that your from the US. People there usually have money for these things, and I know a lot of members on this very forum who can't afford such a console.

I'm also sure that this is going to draw a lot of interest, and a lot of people are going to want it.

who wants a free xbox one?

Is this a real question? Who wouldn't?
I do want a free xbox one, that's for sure. My kids would love it (and frankly, me too).

But... wouldn't this better placed into games and rounds?

i can say that it will come directly from newegg. if you do not to trust me, that's fine. you do not have to participate.

Directly from Newegg? Are you going to buy it for someone and let them ship it out or?
I never stated that you can't be trusted, but I'm going to doubt this a bit (since the value of the console is over $300). Time to do some research.

Is this a real question? Who wouldn't?

Well obviously it isn't the usual giveaway, but rather some idea/experiment that the user is trying out.

this is a real question. the question is part of the experiment.

there is no gambling involved. off topic is also more active.

yes, directly from newegg. i have decided to use newegg because they only charge tax in 4 states and amazon charges tax in 25 states. i will be buying it myself with my own credit card and writing it off as a tax deduction.

This mindset is wrong, very wrong. I'm pretty sure that he will encounter people who won't want it, even if he provided more details (which he stated he won't). Gifting should not be limited to friends, nor family.
You just supported my first point. There are going to be people who don't want a console, people who have one, people who are PS4 fans and such.

You're shipping internationally or limited to the US?

i am not doing this out of the kindness in my heart. it's more of a business opportunity. i plan to make a return on my investment.
Please elaborate.

Very mysterious indeed! You know what, I'm gonna go ahead and say that I would freaking love to receive a free Xbox One  ;D I'm still on last gen, there are plenty of cool titles that I've yet to play but I'll see if I can get a PS4 next year. Anyway that's very generous of you (even if it's only a strategic giveaway  ;) ) , I'll keep my fingers crossed  :)

this will not be a one time thing. i do plan to give away a variety of products.

i will ship internationally.

i'm not sure what else i can say at this point. it's not all figured out yet. as of right now it's just an idea. but i can say that i will be operating as a registered business and i do plan to make a profit.

Give away a DJI Phantom 3 and you have me on board.  :D
I'm going to assume that you're going to give away stuff that is priced similarity to the Xbox or lower. However, I still can't comprehend how you plan on making a return and profit by giving away stuff to strangers.
Also, there shouldn't be restrictions for this giveaway since you've stated that it comes with no strings attached. Although some people might try increasing their chances with shills (which are a problem of this forum).

You might as well keep a list in the original OP of members who are signed up. It might be beneficial to make a moderated thread, as there are going to be a lot of pages of posts (mostly unneeded ones, asking repetitive questions).

Title: Re: giving away FREE xbox one

i will be giving away all kinds of products. gaming consoles. computer equipment. iphones. since drones are hot right now i will probably do those too.

as of right now, the value of the products i give away will be around the value of the xbox. if business is good i would love to be able to give away much more exquisite products such as 4K tv's and custom built computers.

as of right now, i don't see there being any restrictions at all. my request to help promote on social media will probably only be a request, not a requirement.

my current method of deciding who will get the goods has no way of increasing your odds of winning. as of right now the winner will be decided by who is able to respond first.

there is no signing up for anything.

redundant questions will simply be ignored. i will probably start another thread when things are closer to being official. for now this thread is just to establish interest and communication.

People always love freebies. The giveaway business will surely be good :)  I really hope that the business that produces money for the freebies will also do good.
Good luck!

The social media is easy to achieve, but if the list of friends use to talk .. something different than English, it may not be much of help...

Uhh... I would advise you to think twice on this. I've seen threads giving out things to "the first one" (usually hashing power on cloud mining) and the result was that a few smarter ones made bots to do the job and normal users never got anything. Of course, it's your business/giveaway, your rules...

Okay I'm just going to answer everything in a single point. NeuroticFish made a good point when he brought up the issue of bots. When it comes to making giveaways on the internet, and especially on this forum you can never be sure. A 'first come, first served' method isn't really the right way.

i would love to hear some ideas how the prize winner can be chosen.
I guess everyone should be assigned a ticket with a number and that number should be chosen by a random number generator. However, I'm not sure what restrictions you have to put in order to avoid bots and most shills without harming the chance of other users. It would be unfair if you limit it only to trusted accounts or something, since you're trying to make a giveaway.
I'm not sure what you could do, maybe someone else might have a proposal?

i already thought about the random number generator. the problem with that is assigning numbers to the masses. i want people to be able to hear about it and participate without me having to make contact with every person.

One question i want to ask IS winner need to pay the shipping charges?
IF your answer is no , then you are wrong

Ask for shipping charges for winner.

and where you ship ?
Worldwide or only specific country ?.

Well you could just assign number 1 to the first person that signs up and so on. That would be more fair than people picking their own numbers and whatnot. It is also going to be easier to generate a winner since you can just specify the range from 1 to [max number] (of the last participant).

I am interested to get free Giveaway.

-snip-
Read before posting. He has stated that he will ship anywhere and might even consider paying the shipping. However, I don't think that it he should do that.
As far as I know the Xbox One is about 7 pounds heavy. Shipping that from the US to Europe or Asia is going to cost a lot (more than $100 for sure), unless the delivery takes more than a month.

Something else that just came into my mind is newbies - a lot of people just makes plenty of new accounts for giveaways. Most are made just while the giveaway is going. Maybe you need to think about this too.
A Jr. Member+ which can prove his account (signed message) could do, but maybe it's overkill...

Back to "how to chose the winner".

Random generator is the easiest way, however not the best, because on a site like random.org you can just press generate until you get the number you want - which was assigned to another account of yours or to a friend. So it's abusable by the op.

I've seen at some point right here - quite long time ago and I don't have a great memory for details - some lottery where the winner was picked based on the hash of the first block found after some date/time.
For a hash like 00000000000000000cfaec129ec542a790b38efaf279a86e4c0f2f51542ecb37 the lucky numbers were something like 12, 29, 54, 42, ... (based on the 2 digit numbers and the letters were separators?). Maybe somebody remembers that or has a good way to find it.

Of course, this can become over complicate too and since you don't seem to ask for anything "in return", simple random.org may be just fine and people will just have to trust you.

there is nothing to sign up for. it's strictly a word of mouth thing and anybody who hears about it can participate without any kind of registration. i don't want to be involved in having to keep track of people and assign tickets, numbers, ID's, or anything of that nature. i don't plan to keep this business in the bitcoin forum. my intention is to make it go viral and it will be impossible to establish contact with every person who want's to participate.

i will not consider paying for shipping. i will pay for shipping. i am aware of the expense. but i am hoping my revenue will far outweigh my expenses. since i will be operating as a registered business i will just write off the shipping as a business expense along with the cost of the item.

some additional information......

as of right now i am thinking about calling the business Something for Nothing. if anybody has any other clever suggestions i would love to hear them.

i'm also thinking about donating 1% of my monthly profits to a random non-profit at the end of every month. i've been wanting to do something more meaningful with my life than just make more money and have constantly been torn between following my heart and chasing the money. if i am lucky enough to be successful with this endeavor i would be proud to contribute something good to the world. this 1% idea is inspired by these guys.

it sounds crazy. i know that. the way i see it is like this. conventional wisdom says nothing is for free. i want to break that rule. generally, in order to get something without cost you have to do something in return for it like answer surveys, sign up for sweepstakes, etc. nobody really want's to do these things. i want to take the hassle out of it and make it as simple as i can to give away prizes with little effort and time required. like i said, i will be operating as a business and i do plan to make money in the process by using social media and building up followers who are interested in receiving the latest toys and gadgets for free.

this is currently the most difficult question to answer and i am still thinking about the best way to do it.

as of right now, the plan is to make an announcement on social media and inform people of what is currently being given away. after the news spreads around the internet and i have peoples attention i will make a second announcement that it's time to give the prize away. the first person to respond after i make that announcement will be the winner.

I never said anything like that. One has to register/say that they want the gift or how else would you know who to consider.
I'm trying to tell you that you could use a first come first served basis for the numbers. E.g. if I say first that I want to participate, I get the number 1, the second person gets number 2 and so on.
This should be pretty easy, and the only thing that you have to do it run a random generation. There is no signing up or anything aside from saying that the person wants to participate.

Update:
i don't want to assign numbers. it will be too much time and record keeping to keep track of who is who and who has what number. especially if this catches on and i have thousands of subscribers.
You're asking for the impossible. There is no way that you can properly pick someone without doing some work.

C'mon who   would say no to free stuff  ??? even if it sound suspicious but it would be easier if you just giveaway bitcoins instead of shipping an XBOX.

it's not impossible. i'm not saying i don't expect no work at all. i'm saying i have no interest in having to communicate with and assign numbers to every single person who wants to participate. i won't be able to keep up with the emails if this becomes popular and i end up with thousands of followers. i don't want to complicate this and require people to contact me to receive a number. i want this to be as simple as possible for myself and my followers.

It's funny how we want people to be generous and give to others ,but when they actually try to do so they seem suspicious, anyway I hope your intentions are good and I wish you good luck.

it is unfortunate, but it is to be expected. alot of people don't have good intentions. to be honest, i would be suspicious too. what i am proposing has never been done and it sounds like a fantastic fairy tale.

little bit more info about what's going on in my head......

besides giving away products, i would also like to provide experiences. for example, sky diving passes, vacations, tickets to disney world, tickets to concerts. having nice things is nice. but i think going out in to the world and having fun with friends is important too. if i can do that for people i would enjoy being able to do that.

electric forest is like the holy mecca of mind blowing fun. if this crazy business of mine is successful i will definitely be offering tickets for one lucky winner and friends.

This sounds wonderful, though it'll be tricky. Quite some winners will not be able to go there for various reasons (too far, work, ...).
So much less "users" will actually benefit.

Okay guys, please read the thread. He said that he is probably going to ignore repetitive questions. I'm going to clear this up one more time. There is no estimate, nor has this begun. He said that the sole purpose of this thread is to gather interest for his first giveaway which is going to be the Xbox one. He said that he can't give a time frame yet so everyone will just have to be patient.

If we believe OP, then this is going to be the first of many giveaways.

Right, But an eta is different to a exact date, because if he say a month, two month, It is different of one year or so.But anyway if it dont can be announced We must respect his desicion.

i have already thought about this. i do realize that some people will not be able to make it to such events. my options are to have the winner verify they live within the general area and has the possibility of making it. (something i don't want to do) or use some kind of "pass" feature during the competition. when i introduce myself and explain how everything works, i can inform people that i am putting my faith in them to think of others and if they win an xbox or tickets they don't want or need to simply pass them on to the next person. i know there will be people who disregard this and re-sell them, but that's fine. if they win the prize they can do what they want with it. i also think it will be interesting to see how many people pass the prize on to the next guy.

However.. will you get some (mili)cents from all of us visiting the pages you'll show us? ;) (no problem at all from me, it just came into my mind...)
this will be a key part of my revenue strategy. traffic, advertisements, a large user base, and maybe one day, sponsorship.

i will probably do BTC and cold hard cash at some point. but for now my focus is products because people have an appetite for consumer products. i think it will generate the most interest. it also gives me an opportunity to give things to people they normally would not be able to afford.

i can add a little more detail to this. like i said, since we aren't that far away from christmas, i would like my very first give away to be during christmas. it's a big holiday that most people celebrate and giving is a big part of it so i think this holiday fits my business model well. i also think it will add a certain special something to the tone and flavor of the business. however, i will start to take action and lay the foundation for this business long before christmas. as of right now, this is the plan.....

• for the rest of this month and august i am going to continue talking to people, figure out all the details, and structure the game plan.
• in septemeber i am going to handle the business side of things such as expenses, taxes, legalities, and setting up the business.
• in october i will setup my social media presence, introduce myself, and declare the intentions of the business.
• in november my focus will be to spread the word around social media and interact with followers.
• in december i will announce what is being given away and the xbox will be shipped in time for christmas.
• after the first give away, i will probably do 1 prize a month until i have accumulated enough followers. once my revenue stream can support it, i will offer prizes every 2 weeks.

Well at least you've given people a rough estimate, however 5 and a half months is a lot of time. I'm going to assume that a lot of people are very impatient here. You should have made the thread differently.
I think that a good portion assumed that this is a giveaway that is happening right here and right now because of the title. Some didn't even read your first post here.

Anyhow, I'm still curious. Have you decided how you're going to pick someone?

Title: Re: giving away FREE xbox one
Post by: WEB slicer on July 10, 2015, 11:10:48 AM
time goes by quick.

when i posted this it was just an idea. now that i want to pursue the idea and begun planning it's become clear that alot of preparation needs to happen before this is possible. i also can't start giving stuff away without any kind of established user base because i need followers to drive traffic and cultivating followers takes time. anybody who doesn't have the patience to watch this business go from idea to reality probably won't have the patience and determination to compete for the prizes anyways.

i have already posted my current method of how the winner will be decided. i'm not picking the winner. they have to win it by being the first person to publicly respond on social media channels.

Just another idea related to this.
Since the shipping and import taxes may be an issue for some, I'm sure that you credit card (or bitcoin!) is accepted worldwide.
The point is that it could be an idea to buy the product you are after from an online shop from the winner's county.
(But I'm not sure about the price fluctuations).

Title: Re: giving away FREE xbox one
Post by: WEB slicer on July 10, 2015, 11:23:36 AM
i will pay the shipping. winners will be responsible for import taxes.

after more consideration, i will not have items shipped directly from newegg. there are several reasons for this. mainly costs but i also want to have the prizes in hand so i can make a video and show people what is up for grabs and i have it in my possession.

this is currently the most difficult question to answer and i am still thinking about the best way to do it.

as of right now, the plan is to make an announcement on social media and inform people of what is currently being given away. after the news spreads around the internet and i have peoples attention i will make a second announcement that it's time to give the prize away. the first person to respond after i make that announcement will be the winner.

wow very interesting!
where you will make the announcement? here?
if so, we must to stay tuned on this thread.

i also have an update to my "pass" idea. when people pass on an item they don't want or need they will be put on the pass list. when the next person passes on an item, i will go down the pass list in order and those people will have the option to accept the prize that was passed on. this accomplishes a few things. most people who win probably won't pass on an item they don't want or need. they will just take it and sell it. the pass list gives people an incentive to pass because they are no longer in the position of passing on the prize and getting nothing in return. they now have the opportunity to choose what prize they want to accept. this also keeps people interested and trying to win prizes they may not want cause they can get something else that appeals to them.

i would like to comment further on this. i understand what you are saying. to be honest, i don't know what the fuck i'm doing and i will probably stick my foot in my mouth several times. i'm just a man with an idea and i'm running with it. things will probably change several times over the coarse of this little adventure. but i would also like to mention that people came to this thread expecting a single xbox to be given away. at this point it appears that much more is being given away. today i laid out exactly what i want to give away every month for the first year so i can see how much this is going to cost me. the total retail value of the items i plan to give away over my first year is well over $6000. i plan to give away really good shit. you guys may have to wait a bit for that xbox. but good things come to those who wait and in the end i am offering alot more than just an xbox.

i have not given away anything yet. right now this is just an idea in my head and i am trying to get it out and make it reality.

If it is just an idea, why dont you make that idea real and send the xbox to someone who you like to

because the idea is to make a business out of this and right now there is no business.

the total retail value of the items i plan to give away over my first year is well over $6000.

This is big. Please take your time and think it well.
I don't see how can you get enough "visitors" to cover your costs.
All I can do "this early" is to wish you good luck with your business.

Well at least you've given people a rough estimate, however 5 and a half months is a lot of time. I'm going to assume that a lot of people are very impatient here. You should have made the thread differently.
I think that a good portion assumed that this is a giveaway that is happening right here and right now because of the title. Some didn't even read your first post here.
i would like to comment further on this. i understand what you are saying. to be honest, i don't know what the fuck i'm doing and i will probably stick my foot in my mouth several times. i'm just a man with an idea and i'm running with it. things will probably change several times over the coarse of this little adventure. but i would also like to mention that people came to this thread expecting a single xbox to be given away. at this point it appears that much more is being given away. today i laid out exactly what i want to give away every month for the first year so i can see how much this is going to cost me. the total retail value of the items i plan to give away over my first year is well over $6000. i plan to give away really good shit. you guys may have to wait a bit for that xbox. but good things come to those who wait and in the end i am offering alot more than just an xbox.

Awesome man! Waiting is absolutely no problem for me if it means I stand a chance to win something for free + gifts (potential  ::) ) around Christmas always feel more special :) I'll be sure to check on this thread from time to time to see how things evolve. I do however think that you should start your social media campaign not too late just so you can gather a decent crowd. I'll happily retweet your messages to my ~300 followers  ;)

trust me, i am thinking about it long and hard. but no matter what i say or do i believe it all comes down to a hope, a dream, a plan, and a roll of the dice. no matter what business i get involved in there will always be costs involved and most business's are unprofitable for the first few years. so financially speaking in some ways it's just like any other business. the big question is can i hang on long enough to make a profit. you guys are the first public group i have mentioned this to. i really need to start gathering some data. but i don't exactly want the structure of my data collection to be in this thread. not sure how i'm going to do it yet but i will start conducting micro experiments and asking basic questions soon to see what what kind of response i get.

i do plan to ship anywhere in the world.
But who will pay the shipping fee?

I would love to win a console, but I don't want to pay a fee, especially the fee is expensive.

He said that he might even consider paying the fee. However, I do not agree with this as shipping could be even over $150-200 depending on who won and where they live.
What else might be of some concern for people outside of the US is importing costs. Maybe if he labels it as a gift, but I'm not sure if they would dismiss it even then. I've had some differentiating situations with them, so I'm not really sure what to make of this.

i have stated several times, i will pay for shipping. i doubt very much this will change cause it goes against my business model of "Something for Nothing." i want my prizes to be completely free. the only thing that might complicate this is really high international shipping costs. if it's like an additional $20-50 i will cover it. if it's like $100-200, that might be an issue. it all depends on my revenue and if i can write it off as a business expense. if my revenue stream can support it i will cover it. if not i simply will not ship to certain countries until the business is making enough to absorb the expense. however this is the very last option cause i want to keep this available to everybody.

also, i have been having very long conversations with family and some really good points have come up. this is going to be alot more complicated than i originally thought. i am still determined to see this through. but it's become clear that i can't accomplish something like this myself. regardless of how awesome my idea or prize is, it's the followers who are going to make this idea succeed. and i am officially asking you guys to help make this happen. talking with others has made me realize that other people will have drastically different thoughts and feelings about something even if it is as awesome as something for nothing. i need to hear what you guys are thinking. even if it's critical. i need to know what you guys want this to be. how the winner will be decided. i need to know what will make you excited about this. i want to hear if you think i am completely full of shit or won't follow through. i want to know if you are willing to follow me on social media. if you will share with friends. basically, i need your input to structure this in a way that makes you want to be a part of it.

it's also become clear that i can't wait to start building my social media presence. i need to start working on that now. tomorrow i am going to start creating the accounts. they will be lacking any kind of content, but the accounts will exist and i can start farming interest. if you guys want to support this, start following and subscribing. i will start working on content as soon as i am able to.

-snip-
I've stated this already. The Xbox One is 7 pounds heavy, and even with standard shipping I'm expecting a minimum of $100 towards Europe or Asia. It is expensive, but we have to understand since it is going to travel a lot of kilometers. May I ask where you are from exactly, which state?
You could at least partially suggest paying shipping, and if the winner does agree then you can ship it to him. If he does not want to, then you would have to explore other options or find a second winner.
It would be definitely much easier if you were to do this within the US, however I do understand you wish to let everyone be able to join. I'm also sure that the person that receives it will have to pay importing cost and possibly VAT (depends on the laws of each country).

i would also like to add that if you guys scratch my back i will scratch yours. after spending hours on the phone with people i started thinking i need to do something for the people who contribute to the idea. i'm not sure how i am going to handle this yet. but since you guys are my first audience i will remember that this is where it all started and i will find a way to show my appreciation for your support.

alright, so i price checked shipping a 10 pound box to mongolia. the price is $60-80 depending on the size of the box. i will eat that to capture a worldwide audience.

however, i may keep this a US and canada thing for the first year. the first year is going to be the biggest step. if i can sustain this and make a profit that may be the point i open up to the world.

i'm in illinois.

Only us and Canada?  Why are you cutting off so much potential users, only for 20$?

i feel the same way. i want to ship anywhere. even iran and africa. i'm just not sure if i am over extending and biting off more than i can chew at this point. i'm starting to look at it like how do i plan to win the race, by sprinting, or through endurance. nothing is set in stone yet. that's why this is an open discussion. if you are not in the US and canada, sound off and tell me where you are from.

also, the difference will be alot more than $20 to ship overseas. shipping that xbox locally will cost $25. so i'm looking at triple the price to ship certain items international. one of the items i was looking to give away is a 28" samsung 4K monitor. items of that size are going to have a much bigger package, which will cost alot more to ship, and then i have to insure something like that.

So you are talking about buying the XBOX then shipping it ,but how about buying for the winner using his address while paying for the xbox ,because some retailers have lower shipping fees (some even have free shipping)

there are several problems with shipping from store to customer.

i need to have the item in hand so i can do a video and show it off.

i will be able to find better deals if i am not limiting myself to retail stores.

most stores in the US will not ship international.

Yeah, I am from Romania, Eastern Europe, so I'd guess that I am basically out.

However, if you go for media/clicks/refresh to find out when the "new giveaway" starts, I'd assume that China or India has the biggest chance to win (a lot of people, very low income, time to refresh over and over again). If each "click" counts, no matter where it comes from, you'll be much better with worldwide. If you'll target US/CA then restricting the others is an obvious move.

Yes, I know, you didn't state where the income will come, and until then I'll assume that some kind of impressions/views/ptc is involved. Because the money HAS TO come from somewhere :)

Since you want to have the hands on the product, shipping can be a problem. And some potential winners may not even want (or be able) to pay the import taxes and VAT. Another problem you will not have in US / CA :)

hearing you say "i guess i'm out" is very disappointing.   :-\

traffic and followers will be a large part of the income strategy. with this in mind, it really makes no sense to restrict anybody from participating.

the participates will have to decide if they want to or are able to pay import tax. to be honest, with the value of the prizes in mind, it's unlikely somebody will refuse to pay the import tax. that's like passing on $400 cause you don't want to pay a $40 tax. the only people who would have a problem with import tax are those who literally can not afford it. and those people are unlikely to have a computer and internet access anyways. i'm not sure how other countries handle import tax, but i can say i have had international products shipped to me from individuals and retailers and i have never paid an import tax.

I live in Morocco (Africa) ,but I still gonna keep following this thread and see where it goes ,reading these comments is kind of entertaining   ;D

Edit usually the import tax for electronic devices is an extra 20% of their value but the problem at least here in Morocco is that the customs have the right to examine  ur product and decide how much does it worth in the local market ,for instance they can decide that the Xbox is 1000$ so you'll have to pay 200$  fees  :-\

so do i, dissapointed by limitation shipping
since im in asia , and you can't ship it internationally
i hope you can find another solution for this, to keep attract more followers.

You will do as it suits you/your business the best.
I really hope, for your own sake, that you'll use your brain, not your heart.
Sorry, but I am not good on talking nice :) I am still here, but if you will exclude some regions of the world, I can perfectly understand.

That's absolutely normal. I was not implying that you have to pay more than you intend to. Shipping fee is already a great bonus.
But as H4M24 said, import tax can be strange in some areas. I don't know much more in this field; I've read the "rules" for import here some months ago only to understand that they rather complicated (it depends on product value, it depends on product category and some products are also prohibited; and iirc the gifts are also treated different).

What service did you use to check/plan to ship with? I randomly checked Las Vegas (even though it is quite far away from where you are), since I had troubles with Chicago and it costs like ~300$ with Fedex to ship to Mongolia. Your estimate seems quite cheap since Mongolia is really far away from where you are.

Update:
Yes, your estimates are correct. USPS is much cheaper.

i can provide more details on the terms. i originally stated that the winner would decided by who comments first after i announce the give away has begun. however, i have been thinking about this method and decided that it's not fun enough. i now have a new plan. every month there will be a new method of deciding who wins the prize. my current methods have alot of variety and should be fun, interesting, and worth a few laughs. i don't want to say much more cause i want people to be curious and eager for the next month's game.

if your PC is terrible, you are going to love my prizes.  ;D

It's not a bad idea, stop complaining. Essentially people are supposed to get something for free (nothing, as stated in the title). He said that he would only limit it for a year, after which (if everything goes well) he would do it worldwide.

That's unfortunate because I've seen a lot of interest from people that live in Europe. However, I do understand your position. Do what you think is best.

to be honest, something has come up that might make prevent this from working. i didn't wanna say anything yet but since this has been an open discussion i guess i will share.

ad blocking software might make this idea nonviable. basically, it's a browser plugin that prevents ads from being displayed. and since this business model is entirely dependent on ads, this is a major problem. big companies have been following the usage of ad blocking software for a few years and the usage has been doubling every year. for comparison, the two most popular extensions adblock and adblock plus have been downloaded over 250 million times. the population of the united states is 319 million. the main demographics of adblock users are 18-30 year olds from the united states. (my target audience) the data collected suggests 25-40% of people from my target audience is blocking ads. if the ads are not displayed i won't make any money and the current business model won't work.

It looks like you never used ad blocking or faucets :)

I use AdBlock and I can tell you that most faucets, if AdBlock is ON, just show an info that I should not block their ads if I want something for free.
Which is OK and I do that.

You should do the same in the place (website) you show the ads that get the revenue for this.

i have never used faucets. i started using ad block at the beginning of the year. i've been using it without ever thinking about how it would effect this business model. it didn't dawn on me until i visited a site that said, nobody likes ads, we know this, but this website simply could not exists without them. please be considerate of website owners by allowing ads to be displayed. when i saw that message that's when i started thinking about it and looking in to the user statistics. i thought about asking people to turn ad block off, but i know for a fact the majority would not do that. most people don't think of others, they just think of themselves. doing this also informs people who do not yet currently know about ad block that it exists and basically increases the user base when they hear me talking about it.

Are you aware that offering incentives for people to click on your ads is not allowed and if someone reports you and this will happen you will get banned from every ad company there is?

i was not aware of this. i wasn't planning on asking people to click on ads or offering incentives to do so.

mainly ads, hopefully sponsorship. i also had plans to monetize the large user base down the road but the ad block issue is kinda messing up the plan.

Restricting delivery to US addresses is smart.
Some countries have major problems with honest postal services, like Indonesia, for example.

Well that is not problem if we are highly interested to get it. I have seen many websites that offer similar service that re-direct your package.
