Title: Quick question
Post by: sLide. on September 22, 2012, 02:34:38 AM
Has anyone that's a developer thought of using Ps3's to mine bitcoins?  A while back, the military wanted to test about 300 of them for a cheap, small, portable SC.  Wouldn't we be able to design a install to mine for us?  Just thinking... ???

Yes, PS3 has been used to mine bitcoins. It doesn't have much power. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison Scroll to the bottom. It all needs custom firmware. Its 21 mhash, or 26.6 mhash with unlocked core.

Yeah this has been tried by a number of people with no success. However: I remember reading that there was a certain component that nobody could get full use of, that would drastically improve performance.
