Title: Bitcoin Laundry/Mixer
Post by: tully on July 16, 2015, 04:39:24 PM
Hey guys,

Do mixers actually work? In terms of blocking previous addresses that coin has came from? How likely would you, to be able to trace back the origin of payments?

Cheers guys

tully :)

Yes they do work & It's still tracable but it makes it a lot harder and need a lot of efforts to do that.
Hopefully the Darkwallet will be fully funded and we will be able to make fully annonymus transaction pretty soon .

it works. especially if you set up a custom fee plus time delay. that makes it so much harder to trace. but like most of the things in life, nothing is 100% secure or safe.

How would it be possible to track back to the origin source if the transactions were mixed, broken down and distributed across random intervals- all to different addresses?

Realistically it's pretty low % of you being trace back to those coins, but the main problem with the mixing method is is ultimately centralized, you have to trust that the mixer service will not keep logs and deliver logs to authorities or someone else if requested, let alone owners of the mixer service taking advantage of the logs for blackmailing and whatnot. That's extremely paranoid tho, if you aren't moving ridiculous amounts of money and you just want to move a couple hundred around no one is going to care.

Preety much impossible until the Bitcoin Mixer Service Keeps Logs and hands over the logs to authorities if requested...While most of the Mixing services keep no logs, those are what criminals use to get away from law agencies. And yes Mixers actually work :P

If you are that paranoid, go through 2 different mixers.
It is double the fee, but the chance that they are in cohoots is very low

Just learning the ropes at the moment, interested in how DarkWallet is going to fair in the up and coming months ::)

Magic. IT would be very difficult to tell and maybe even impossible in some cases but it all depends on  how well they're mixed.

What would be a popular mixer with plenty of volume?

last time i checked zero coin was in better position than darkwallet, because it was based onf zero-knowledge proof

i would simply use monero for now, if i want to avoid tracking, you sell monero for goods here on bitcointalk, i'm sure there are those who can accept it, it's pretty stable as a currency

It would be impossible in all cases unless the mixer sites store information on the customers as they don't forward payments but mix with other payments and the original will have no connection with the final one.

Had a glance at ZeroCoin but never really gone any further.

Thanks for rounding the point up. My thoughts exactly bud :)

Very easy to mix your coins just follow the instructions given mixing site of your choice, there are several options, but I usually use the mixer site have contained in my space for signature campaign.

there's so many option to mix your money out there, two mixing sites who is currently popular are
- Bitmixer.io
- [banned mixer]
Bitmixer is alive since few years back and still normal until now,and cryptomixer on their official announcement thread has been verified to have funds about 2000 Bitcoin in their mixing pool (verified by trusted people here) so it's depend on your option

If you want to make people more paranoid, it would be better to write that one or more mixers is developed by Interpol to track down criminals ..  ;)

There are many but most popular and trusted by many are ; bitmixer.io and [banned mixer]. However cryptomixer is newer than bitmixer, but I have done smooth mixing with cryptomixer also. You can choose one of them, but don't try any else which aren't being used by many and are preety new.
