Title: how will the BFL ASIC be operated?

I've heard that the current BFL single is run as an external hardware. So you run a mining software on a PC of your choice, connect the single to your PC using the USB and it will run and communicate with the PC with no problems.

What about the new Single SC from BFL? Anyone knows how will it run? I preordered one single SC and I'm thinking about getting a raspberry pi to operate it. Is that a good idea? Thank you for answers.

order from farnell not RS and you'll get it within a week [usually less depending on where you are in the world]

Will a Raspberry Pi be fast enough to process/verify the hashes? I'm under the impression that a Single, and especially a Mining Rig, will need something very fast to keep up with all the data, especially if running your own Bitcoin and Solo/P2Pool mixing. Anyone know?

2 current BFL MRs = 50GH/s, and people have had no issues running these on just a laptop. You might not want to run a 1TH/s MR on a netbook, but a few SC Singles should be fine.

well if you run it on stratum protocol, I think it should be fine. We will never know till we try though right? :) RPI should take around 3.5W and if it's too slow then I will use EEE pc, which takes around 10W, so it's not so bad... I can then use the RPI as offline wallet for armory...

I am about ready to give it a shot and pull down a RPI just because when the difficulty goes up I am not sure I will still want to deal with my video card production so then I won't really need to have a full time CPU for this and if an RPI can do it then why not.  I have not seen anyone yet hook up a bunch of BFL singles and or a mini-rig to an RPI but like it was said above won't know until we try.  If someone has or does try this please share because I think this will become a popular option.

I had been wanting to order a RPi for awhile just out of sheer curiosity but had never really gotten around to it.  Now I have a more tangible reason :D

That makes me curious as to what hardware would actually be necessary to run 1TH/s devices efficiently. If a RPi can handle a Single without a problem now, where would the hardware bottleneck occur if you switched to a Single SC or Mini SC on the same RPi? RAM, Processor speed, FSB, etc?

And on that note, good news on new RPi devices (http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/09/99-raspberry-pi-sized-supercomputer-touted-in-kickstarter-project/)!

sounds good. Anyway with the new stratum protocol it should have no problems with the bandwidth... I will update once I have it running...
