Even for Searching inbox I use that letter. bitcointalk shouldn't make the field compulsory. When searching like that, it shows all "posts"(not only topics) made by that user with the letter(s)/word(s) you type. If you want to search this way, type all alphabets with space in between them, change "Match all words" to "Match any words" and enter your username or the username you want. It should list all the names accordingly as long as different people aren't using the same keyword. But having a feature to directly search for all threads started by me would be an awesome feature. AFAIK myBB has a function on user profiles that allows you to see all threads created by a user, but I don't think SMF has a function similar to that.
