Title: Famous people using Bitcoin.
Post by: Coma on June 02, 2011, 04:08:30 PM
This will eventually happen.
And also, this would have major impact on social perception of Bitcoin. Public opinion can't be the same if Lady Gaga sings she uses it than if Tom Cruise says he bought a baby with Bitcoins.

Maybe there are already some using it. Maybe they even arlready lurk or post on this forum.

It's definitely possible from the view of social psychology .

More importantly, think of people becoming successful using Bitcoin.

Maybe an example will be a musician who got the opportunity to tour after receiving investment in bitcoins through glbse.  One use of GLBSE is something similar to kickstarter except with GLBSE the funding is true investment where in exchange for providing funding the investor receives equity and then shares profits from the microventure.

Instead of 100 million people first learning about bitcoin from a celebrity think instead of ten of people learning first about it from one of their (suddenly successful) family members or friends but then multiply that occurrence ten million times.

As far as celebrities, I suspect we'll see them someday.  Something like OWN trying to launch OprahBux which will then trade freely against BTCs or MCDs (the digital currency launched by a multinational restaurant chain).

I wonder if we could get the Mythbuster-guys to use them? :D

They seem like the obvious ones!

Nice posts. Yeah, BitCoin might be brilliant, but only a platform for bigger things to come.

though i do admit the resemblence is stricking, and the fact that they have the exact same name even more so, but that Charlie Sheen is only 22 years old, the famous one is much older i believe..

Joe Rogan mentioned them in his latest podcast at around the 1 hour mark.

Joe Rogan mentioned them in his latest podcast at around the 1 hour mark.

But they mentioned them in the context of Silkroad and not as an actual currency.  Which is a problem.  Some people have seen the silk road articles and are associating bitcoin with buying illegal things anonymously only.

They didn't talk about any other aspect of bitcoin aside from the silk road thing.
