Wouldn't be auctioning it the best option? Does he have any sort of certificate or such in order to prove it is authentic?

All of the paperwork does come with the bottle.  Everything that proves that is authentic comes with the bottle.  

Bonhams in NY doesn't do spirits as of 2014 and Skinners hasn't been marketing their spirits very well.

The seller is also interested in Bitcoin.  That is the main reason it is posted here... perhaps this listing will encourage all of the high end auction houses to allow bidders to bid with Bitcoin. Just seen an episode of American Greed where a guy defrauded millions from people by simply counterfeiting rare bottles of wine and selling them as "authentic and genuine".

How does one verify the authenticity of a bottle of brandy unless there is a known expert there to do so?

Let me confirm with my seller.

I'm sure we can arrange for the buyer to meet the owner of the company.  The company has since been closed, but shouldn't be an issue with a call here or there!

Counterfeits hid in volumes.  There isn't any room in say... Pappy Van Winkle 23yrs because there is only 3,000 bottles sent out every bottling.  This stuff I think there was only... 5 lol.  Wine market has plenty of room for "those types".

I have heard of fake attempts at Pappy Van Winkle, but the tops are plastic (DEAD give away.)  The machine that does the tops of the bottles costs a fuck ton of money and uses metal.

I'm sure there is an expert somewhere that would be able to aid the buyer as well.  Perhaps our buyer has already tried one of the other 4 existing bottles and can taste test with us! (wishful thinking hahaha)

I mean... there aren't exactly many $1 million dollar bottles of Brandy out there.

The pictures I've seen online the bottle is round whilst the picture you have seems like it has a flat side. For a $1000000 bottle of spirits they could have given you a better designed bottle.

She's a round bottle.

From the pictures I've seen it appears to be shaped like a Pappy Van Winkle bottle, but extended a bit. (same shape)

Signature looks fine to me.  I've never seen another one though.  Perhaps someone will come out of the wood work who has.  Bitcoin is a small world.

The flat or warped side you see around the signature might simply be an air bubble. (From a round bottle which was photographed laying on its side rather than standing upright.)

Ahhhh I bet that is what they were talking about.

The bottle is sideways in the picture.

That would be a huge air bubble, as if someone already opened it for a swig. Also the "air bubble" is asymmetric near the beginning of the signature. Very unlikely. I'm calling photoshop.

BayAreaCoins, why don't you go with your friend to a local auction and hopefully someone will bid like 500k on it, and starting bid 100k since it is worth 1 million. Did your friend buy it for 1 million :p ?

The seller is my go to Pappy Van Winkle connection.  They have sent me tons of pictures of the bottle and a good amount of paperwork pictures as well.  I absolutely believe this bottle is authentic.  I have never seen it in person though.


They are going to go the auction route I believe.
