Title: 4 Card motherboard
Post by: Genrobo on June 02, 2011, 07:00:17 PM
What's the cheapest motherboard than I can mine with 4 cards on?
Including via PCI-E 1X slots

I want a board that is known to work this way, because some boards have issues using both 1x and 16x slots simultaneously.

Or you know, if you can recommend a board you're currently using in this manner?

I would love to read some answers too...

Ok I'll try to make a list, these are either motherboard with 4xPCI-e or can be used to mine with 4xGPU using risers:
-MSI 890FXA-GD70
-MSI 990FXA-GD80
-BIOSTAR TA890FXE AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard
-gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
-Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD7 (need extenders for dual slot GPUs)

(all found on this forum, just use as a reference, no guarantees!)

MSI 790FX-GD70 if you can find it. Doesn't need adapters, is cheap and high quality. But it's last gen, so might be hard to find now.

I'm using the MSI 890FXA-GD70 and been happy with it.  It's not cheap and it's got 4 full PCI slots, so no extenders are needed.  I'm _sure_ you can get a cheaper board with 4 slots including the 1x ones much cheaper, just don't forget to add in the cost of the extenders to your comparison against the boards with 4 full slots.

If you're going to do a quad gpu setup, I wouldn't slack on the quality of the motherboard.
