I see that tomatocage already started a great thread for stating BTC addresses here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0
It's a great thread and has been very popular.

But what everybody always ask for is a signed message, so I think it's time to carry on from tomatocage's idea and start one for signed bitcoin addresses only.
For members that don't know how to sign a BTC address Shorena created a fantastic tutorial here:

You can sign every address you have it you want to..

I think If you post your bitcoin addres  you do not need to post sign mesage

I dont see why the th last thread would get locked but hey if they do that then so be it, im just trying to help the community.

its because you dont need to prove anything while posting signed message in this thread. posting a bitcoin address is enough and only sign a message with it when needed.

Good point, i guess a signed message is only as good as the date it was signed on.
Plus there is really no point posting a btc address that dosen't belong to you.

Well, I am not sure whether you meant my thread. Anyway, I hadn't opened it in Meta, but TC opened it on the correct board next, it became more popular, so I just quoted everyone on my thread in his thread.

Why I asked signed messages was:
1. To avoid someone from posting addresses he cannot sign. It is really simple to confuse for someone who is new to this, so my thread made signing address mandatory.
2. To make people figure out how to sign the message first, rather than trying to figure it out then.
3. No one can post someone else's address (assuming date is included) due to error or for fraud.

It is a good way, if you prefer awareness over simplicity.

That was sort of the point here, a lot of new mwmbers think just posting a message is all they need for future refrence.
Addresses like some receiving addresses and also i think ones from Coinbase ect. can't be signed.
Post your signed BTC address here if you feel like it.   :)

This thread is almost the same as the 'Stake your address here' thread, the only difference is you are having a signature at the beginning (while when you trying to claim your account back, you'll need another message signed).

1. well, IMO no users will post address that they dont own or they cant sign (newbies aside but there should a be message in the OP that should only post address that the user have full control)

The point number 3 on ndnhc's post only tells you that you cannot use someone's address for fraud or scamming because first and foremost, you cannot prove that you have control over that address because you cannot sign a simple message using that address.

Yes, that is what I mean. Signing the address simply proves:
He controls the address. i.e. no one else does.
He has full control.
He can sign the address.
He also learns to sign the address in the process. (if he doesn't already, that is.)

Someone new to this thing wouldn't care to read the thread in full detail or may not know what "full control" refers to. :)
While signing the address guarantees that.

Posting someone else's address is quite possible. Remember the scam accusation against me?

Scam someone and post someone else's address in that thread. Done. All fault goes to that guy.
I got lucky I could convince QS, otherwise my trust feedback would be red.

I think it is not needed a new thread, because in the Tomatocage's thread I've seen users posted (me too) a signed message. Two or more thread will only cause more damage and disorder, in my honest opinion.
