Title: How to type [btc] ฿ just like typing a "$"?
Post by: investspot on August 04, 2015, 02:26:31 PM
Hello, I just learn how to type the bitcoin symbol "BTC" here on  bitcointalk.org, but the
Code:
[btc]
does not work on other websites/forums, and I found that this one can not be copied. While I found somewhere else another "฿" which is copiable, but I don't know how to type it, I just copy and paste.

Anybody know how to type a "BTC" everywhere just as easy as like typing a "$"?  Thanks.

Wish you guys will have more and more and more and more BTCBTCBTCBTCBTCBTC.

The BTC is not a regular Unicode character yet, and the [btc] tag is a custom plugin thingy, just here on this forum.

The best way to do it is either:

- when making websites or writing HTML content, use Font Awesome (http://fontawesome.io/) which contains a nice Bitcoin symbol (http://fontawesome.io/icon/btc/)

- otherwise, just copy/paste the ฿ from elsewhere, this is a regular character which works pretty much in any context or situation

currently there is no standard ascii or unicode character for bitcoin, so it is not recognized by any system.  bitcointalk.org has added the code as a custom workaround for us to use.  see here for the background if you are interested:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin_symbol

no workaround currently, except for using a closely matching symbol such as capital B, or the Thai Baht symbol.

I don't think there is a workaround or a short cut fot the BTC symbol.
For me it's either I BTC button or control+c control+v of [ btc ] on a notepad

I love that this forum has the "insert bitcoin symbol" formatting option.

If the bitcoin symbol becomes a standard unicode can we consider Bitcoin as having "made it" as a currency? I bet the price pop on that day will be a good one!

True, the demand for it has been here for a long time but till now there hasn't been any ascii code for it and you basically either have to use the Thai Baht symbol or this one Ƀ .

Ƀ is not a logo but a symbol: Unicode Character U+0243 can be used any Unicode text editor.

This unicode character was originally used as a phonetic symbol to represent or transcribe the sound [β]. Thus the context of this use does not allow any confusion with the Bitcoin currency.
