Title: What is the fuzz about blockchain.info all about?
Post by: gonzos on August 04, 2015, 10:20:33 PM
Hey there,

I've not been following bitcoins alot until recently. Someone said that Satoshis Coins were moved but in reality they weren't.
so what's the big fuzz and how is it possible to fake people into believing that transactions took place when they didn't actually take place?
A site like blockchain.info should have some security measures....

right?
RIGHT?

Yea I saw some post on reddit about blockchain.info messing up, but I don't really know what really happened. If anyone can explain that would be awesome.

In blockchain.info, satoshi's addresses seemed to moved some coins to different addresses. which caused some speculation that satoshi might have returned when in reality, it is some errors on the pushtx API of blockchain.info. The problem seems to be persisting until now, but it doesn't matter. People have been used to the bugs and security issues on blockchain.info. If you guys have some bitcoins on their online wallet, remove it now if you don't want to get screwed.

When I started on bitcoins, a wise man said:

Never trust online wallets. And I will keep it that way till I collapse.

i agree with you they face problems really often but its ok to keep small sums i guess you use every day

if satoshi really would have moved his coins this would have led to trouble i guess

Funds attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto have not moved -- they are unconfirmed by the bitcoin network and likely spoofed. Blockchain.info has a bug implementation and believed bad transactions were real transactions.

The API could accept fake transactions so some people submitted fake txs and that txs appeared in blockchain.info explorer

Blockchain.info tweeted about it earlier. Looks like the TX was spoofed / fake.

Those transactions are simply invalid, and no other block explorers have accepted them except blockchain.info. It looks more likely to be a bug on blockchain.info to me.

Oh well! I did read a reddit post regarding this but i still didn't get it! So.. should i withdraw all my money from blockchain.info and store it in a destop wallet? If so, why? Thanks :)

I advice against having any funds in the blockchain.info wallet. I had some coins there, and I lost access to them for a week where the API would for some reason crash when I tried to access, and now the satoshi coins incident... i cant trust this.

They push buggy codes. Its always result is some problems, sometimes hacks and sometimes other errors. You should not put your money in an insecure wallet.

Just downloaded the bitcoin core..Heck, it takes 20 GB to synchronize... It will take me more than 2 months to complete synchronization!  Which one do you suggest? Multibit or Electrum?

Its just not feasible for people to use bitcoin core. 20 GB is too big unless you want to dedicate a machine to it. Not to mention the need for an exemplary internet connection.

Multibit HD and Electrum are good choices.  Multibit HD has more features at this point but Electrum is close behind. I don't think there is much difference in security features or reliability. You can always install both and compare for yourself.

Downloading multibit HD, 85% completed ;D

The biggest reason why is that you don't control your private keys by using an online wallet like blockchain.info.  Bitcoin Core is a pretty significant investment in terms of CPU usage, disk space, etc, and unless you are planning to support the network and run a full node, it probably isn't for you.

Looks like the problem has been resolved, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1143759.msg12054275#msg12054275

But i'm still skeptic to use bc.i wallet. Better don't use it.

The guy who spoofed the Tx, confessed it on reddit...

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3fv42j/blockchaininfo_spoofed_transactions_problem_aug_4/

He is a security researcher from Central Europe and did this using blockchain.info push tx facility.
