Title: Aurora theater gunman James Holmes sentenced to life in prison

Surprise decision comes after jurors in his trial for 2012 shooting spree deliberated for two days and failed to reach a unanimous vote
The convicted Colorado theater gunman James Holmes will spend the rest of his life in prison after jurors in his trial for the 2012 shooting spree failed to reach a unanimous decision on the death penalty.

Holmes stood with his hands in his pockets as Judge Carlos Samour Jr read the jury’s decision, which was reached after about six and a half hours over two days. In order for a death sentence to be handed down all 12 jurors must be unanimous in their decision.

“We the jury do not have a unanimous final sentencing verdict,” Samour Jr read as shock swept the audience of victims and their family members. “As a result the court will impose a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.”

It's hard to say it was a surprise, the two options were life in prison or death. I'm not sure what the hype is about...maybe the OP is making more hype about this than the article, but it's all about the make up of the jury. A majority of jurors must have been against the death penalty...that's it. There's no way that these people were trying to be lenient to a mass murderer, they were just doing something they felt was the morally right decision.

To the OP...any thoughts on this or are you just relaying the news to us for some quick coin?

About damn time I say. I personally would rather have him killed than shove one more loony into the prison system so tax payer's money is thrown around even more uselessly. The US has 1.4 billion bullets stored, just one is needed.
