Title: Solo mining setup - okey?
Post by: heesten on August 08, 2015, 05:02:15 PM
I have recently invested in:
2 Antiminer U3 60 Gh/s = Total 120 GH/s
2 Yellowjacket USB Erupter 2 GH/s = Total 4 Gh/s

Total Gh/s = 167 GH/S (including other computers with GPU mining)

Would this setup make any coins if i go solo or should i stick to a pool?

You'll have too much variance solo mining; you'll want a pool. Also, at today's diff and rate, you'd only be making 43 cents per day, before subtracting the cost of electricity. Assuming there's some GPU mining in there, the electricity (and possible equipment wear-and-tear) will cost far more.

Maybe that's exactly why he's contemplating solo mining, and playing the lottery instead? :)

Still sucks in the long-term. I'm pretty sure centralized government lotteries have higher chances of winning.

Pretty much :)  I'd sell off the U3s, myself - those yellowjackets don't suck that much energy.. unscrew a pointless lightbulb somewhere to offset ;)

I would also dump any GPU miners, unless you wish to mine an alt-coin. They consume a huge amount of electricity for the GH that you get. You must have a ton of GPU's to get get 30+ GH of SHA-256 hashing.

It's OK to gamble, but why buy an expensive and slow ticket (i.e. the GPU's) to do so.

Definitively not use GPU for Bitcoin. Point it at Nicehash if you don't know what to do, or something.
