Title: Just bought a butterfly labs jalapeno 10gh/s
Post by: SPECJEDI on August 11, 2015, 02:40:24 AM
Hey everyone,

I just bought a butterfly labs jalapeno 10gh/s on ebay for 50 dollars shipped. I thought it was a good deal being that butterfly labs has them out of stock and all the other jalapeno 5gh/s were being sold for $50 - $100 on ebay, So i did a buy it now and purchased it thinking it was a steal because it was the 10gh/s. After purchasing it i was doing my profit calculations with about .08 kw/h max and I kept on getting negatives then making money? I'm just wondering if i made a bad choice in getting the BFL jalapeno for $50.00? Is there a way i can still make money with this thing? Please let me know guys thank you.

Well, if nothing else, you should get a chuckle out of this thread, new account person  :D  That's profit of a sort, right?

You could list it on ebay yourself and see if you can get more money for it than you spent, or try holding on to it and see if it becomes a collectors' item / desirable item for a Bitcoin museum type setup.  Mining-wise it's pointless.. could use it for playing the lottery with some solo mining, but the GekkoScience Compac would be a much better choice for that ;)

For experimental, yes, for profit, No.
I stop using my jalapeno 3rd q of 2014.

Ask butterfly labs support that why you are getting negative profits and if they dont reply you just write a review for them at Ebay.
Meanwhile use the H/W for couple of weeks and check if the performance of H/W is Up or not , you cant change Electric Value but you do can check for performance.
Do keep updating us also regarding it.

it isn't a good deal at all for the same price you can get something more valuable like a s1, which has x20 the hashrate for less consumption, still useless but much better option

You could point it at ck solo pool and win a block.

Almost impossible odds.

But it would be the only way it has a chance to earn a profit mining.

You could list it on eBay at a higher price then you paid for it.

You could try a raffle to sell it.

ok, for the ones that were curious to know how my butterfly jalapeno 10 gh/s performs here is a screenshot of how fast its running. Since the moment I got it its been running over 12gh/s. Not bad since its suppose to run at 10gh/s.

Your best bet is to sell it for $50 and try to get a couple S1 and under clock them to 150Gh each or so.  If you are trying to make a profit even then might not due to age of equipment.

But either way welcome to mining and $50 even though it will not make you money good experience and fun with BTC mining.

You should have bought a Gekkoscience stick miner, manufactured by members of this forum.  It out performs the outdated miner you bough, costs less, and uses less power.

BEST. THREAD. EVER.

LOL!

Ok, on a serious note though... You should not have purchased a 10 Gh/s miner for $50. If you are ever paying more than $0.50 per Gh/s, you will not make a profit. Buy a serious miner from Bitmain. Just to give you a profit example, I personally run 31,500 Gh/s and make about $43 a day at the current exchange rate of 230 USD to 1 BTC.

If this is a troll, well, then I guess you got me haha.
