Title: Did you know? Bitcoin in Space!
Post by: LiteCoinGuy on August 12, 2015, 04:57:36 PM

Dunvegan Space Systems is an early stage company focused on bringing decentralized, networked, open source design principles to spaceflight with the goal of opening new frontiers throughout the solar system for the betterment of all humanity.

Financial applications are one example of BitSat’s value add capabilities. BitSat has been optimized for Bitcoin and crypto-currency applications. Each BitSat has the capability to save the entire blockchain on orbit, providing a comprehensive back-up for the terrestrial Bitcoin network, while helping to build the blockchain. BitSats independently verify each bitcoin block after uplink from a ground station, ensuring relevant communication with the terrestrial Bitcoin.

I don't know I see a lot of problems in this.  First the whole part about getting it into space.

But what radio freq are they going to use?   I see getting the freq and also getting ability to encrypt traffic as  problem.  A lot of freq such as amateur radio range have lots of rules.  If done right some can bounce off space station, etc.   But a amateur radio operator cannot encrypt the traffic or big FCC problems.

All this can be solved.  But the will need a backer with deep pockets.

Lets forget about space for now.. lets look at what we need to do get there lol.

I mean we aint going to space if half the people want to split the bitcoin like these huge minerpools discuss.

Thanks for article it is interesting.   But I think that it's someone just wanting some PR.

No one is going to spend that to run a node.  If main goal is to put nodes in safe places they could do a LOT more with the 19million on earth.  They could go to many different data centers made for high security or disaster recovery.   With these they have pretty fool proof places with good security to be in.

Again neat idea just not practical.

Good project, I think this is a brilliant step forward to having Bitcoin transactions survive despite the internet being shut down.

Blockchain on orbit? I do not think this is still needed, and is likely to be highly expensive.

Don't we need, like food and shit for astronauts? Not a floating machine that stores data, we have machines that store data down here, why not put magnets on their bottoms and make them float. Wasting a billion bucks on getting the floaty thingy floating is a bit much...
