I have shipped FPGA mining devices to the Russian Federation (what the postal service is calling it now) you just have to have all the paperwork in order your Nomenclature codes and all that.

They have codes for devices like this, so I am sure its completely legal as long as you fill out the paperwork correctly.

One interesting fact:

Russia is the only country I have encountered so far, (and yes I have shipped to countries on nearly every continent) where you cannot buy postage online for that country. It's the only country I have encountered where you have to physically go to the post office to buy the postage.

That's kind of odd.  I sell a lot on eBay, and I've purchased quite a few prepaid First Class Intl mailing labels for orders going to Russia (using eBay's postage purchasing system).  For me it works like any other country.  I can purchase a prepaid label with an embedded CN22, but (as with all intl mailings) I am supposed to take it inside the post office to be "accepted" in person, rather than just dropping it in a mailbox.

I buy all my postage directly through the postal service web site and it does not allow me to buy postage for Russia online (only country)

Also a tip on the foreign shipments, if you can manage to use the small flat rate boxes you only need one small customs label which you can put on yourself and mail out with your regular mail.

Its only when you start getting up to the medium size boxes you have to go to physically drop them off there.

There are countries that you can't ship via USPS at all, not even if you go into the post office.
I had that occurred to me one time when I was selling on ebay. Don't remember the exact country, but it is one of those ****stan country.

if he says "we" as bfl_josh it is easily understood, if he had simply "BFL ship to Russia" in his post rather than "we" people that are not aware of his association with BFL would get an answer that made more sense :).

Before trying to ship FPGA to Russia, I've done some research, I got all the codes, and read the law about importing cryptographic devices. Its perfectly safe to import ASICs to Russia, as the algorithm is open source and unchangeable, and its not for encryption, but decryption (otherwise you could have some issues, I'd say a lot  ::)). It all comes down to taxes, in Russia you have to pay 30% for anything imported above 1k euro (including shipping costs) in a calendar month. So, you could get away without paying a thing at customs when buying a small single sc for $650 and maybe even a single sc for $1.3k
