Title: Best/ quickest wallet to import private keys for mac
Post by: gravitate on August 17, 2015, 05:40:06 PM
Hi I know how to import private keys using bitcoin qt but this is heavy on my mac book pro. Are there any other wallets you can import or sweep keys? I have 30 bitcoin addresses on with clams and have been told I need to take off the btw first.
Thanks in advance

You can import private keys with bitcoin-qt fastly without rescanning, in few seconds
just when importing private key, add rescan=false at the end of command

Yes mate I know but QT grinds my computer to a raging fire if I leave the wallet shut for a few days

Don't get bogged down with the mess of 2FA, verification, and browser storage with blockchain.info if you can avoid it. Just use Electrum (by setting up a normal wallet, preferably recording the seed and stuff to prevent the case where you start using the wallet fully and it gets lost), and then import your private keys from elsewhere.

Try out Copay.io  it is a multi signature, open source bitcoin wallet from Bitpay. It run on OS X and it should be easy to import bitcoin keys into it.

That's a misquote. I never said the first sentence. Do you mean to include it outside the quote?

Yes sorry I was using my phone... I'm going to try Electrum tomorrow see how it works.

Nice I got it so I just go Waller- private keys- sweep... Get the bitcoin then I can import the private key into the clam client?
Simple as that?
If it is that simple I think I will have an ice cream out of satisfaction even though I have already brushed my teeth.

If sweep's behavior is standard, it should only have your private key long enough to sign the sweep transaction with it. You should import the keys instead, spend them out, then go through and copy and paste the keys.

It should be in the same menu as sweep, but people have been claiming their version doesn't have it, which is just about the stupidest fucking thing I've ever seen in bitcoindom. If you can't get any version to show you the private keys>import menu option, I have it in OSX Electrum 2.3.2 and know how to completely zero most private keys. Unfortunately, if all you have is dust amounts like that on them, you need to use special tools to spend the dust to TX fee IIRC.

You can just do a manual send. Right click the imported address in your address list, and click send from. Put the address you want to send TO into the appropriate field, and use ! in the box for the amount to send all.
