Title: New Signature Requirements [Poll]
Post by: Bjork on October 05, 2012, 05:36:42 PM
The new signature space is much smaller (shorter) than it used to be.  Do you think this change is good because it helps cut back on signature spam or is it a bad idea, and perhaps it's better to just ignore people with obnoxious signatures?

why make a new topic?

There is already a poll on this topic?  where?

I really like the lower profile signatures.

I mean, we see the same people posting over and over again, after seeing their signature once I pretty much ignore it thereafter. Having signatures that were longer than the posts was obnoxious and it made scrolling through threads much more tedious.

I would prefer if there was an option in profile settings to adjust how many pixels one wants to reserve for signatures.

Setting the size by pixels is not a good idea. It should be based on text line height. Fonts and sizes vary across web browsers, and if someone needs to use a larger font, they won't even be able to read the first line of the signature—bad for accessibility. It's also highly annoying in case you actually want to view someone's signature.

When the sigs are cut off, that also makes the site look broken and unprofessional, though maybe that's just me.

At the very least, put a scrollbar in or something.
