Title: IRC/Bitcointalk spoof text / impersonator scam report. Post by: statdude on August 25, 2015, 12:26:09 AM A scammer impersonated me and convinced blazedout i was speaking to him as "trader" on IRC.
He then confirmed via forum PM he was "talking" to me via forum while I was talking to a spoofed handle. I didn't notice the spoof as the IRC text appears exactly the same as the real profile, and only could be found out by copy pasting to notepad. Warning to others: Do not trade without confirmed PGP key signature or otherwise. IRC handle characters can be SPOOFED so they DO NOT APPEAR as what they actually are. Copy paste a handle to notepad to be sure. Title: Re: Scammed by Blazedout419 for 1.5 BTC Post by: Quickseller on August 25, 2015, 12:27:27 AM Do you have any kind of proof of this?
edit: This (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=877765.msg10125971#msg10125971) is one place where Blazed posted the 34Qoskv8xJrhbGCyzVbVbKnEXQQdY2EZpx address so I don't think his account is hacked as it was posted 6+ months ago. That address is also in his profile. I also don't see any transaction in the amount of 1.5BTC recently that was sent to that address and the most recent transaction to that address was over two weeks ago. Title: Re: Scammed by Blazedout419 for 1.5 BTC Post by: Quickseller on August 25, 2015, 12:33:41 AM That proves nothing. I am fairly certain that address belongs to blazed. If you somehow misspoke and meant to say that you sent 1.5BTC to 1BLazePhVzW6PsRpj4MEZtGnd1uDEKBmfs then this address has not received any funds in months either.
Why don't you explain how exactly he scammed you..... Title: Re: Scammed by Blazedout419 for 1.5 BTC Post by: BurgerKill on August 25, 2015, 12:35:33 AM That proves nothing. Title: Re: Scammed by Blazedout419 for 1.5 BTC Post by: BurgerKill on August 25, 2015, 12:42:37 AM I warn the community and am attacked? Please relax people. Let's figure this out. Firstly, we're not attacking you. We're trying to get some information on the scam. You haven't even given us details about what the trade was, chat logs from IRC, or anything. And also, I find it hard to believe that you don't feel like posting transaction proof for 311.3 USD.Not sure how I can "prove" the PM is real besides letting trusted members log into my account. I don't feel like wasting my time posting a bunch of tx id's. it was 1.5 BTC. His address (https://blockchain.info/address/34Qoskv8xJrhbGCyzVbVbKnEXQQdY2EZpx) also only had a transaction from 8/12/15. That was the latest one. I then sent 1.5 btc of an altcoin first as a trade. Of course, he never sent his side. How much more proof is required? That seems to be plenty. What exactly was the terms of the trade? What evidence can you show to back this up? Title: Re: Scammed by Blazedout419 for 1.5 BTC Post by: Blazed on August 25, 2015, 01:05:22 AM You got scammed on IRC by someone with a similar name. I am registered in every chan via gribble. You sent me a message AFTER you got scammed asking if I was the real Blazedout. The same shit that happens here...check the name make sure it is real.

Title: Re: Scammed by Blazedout419 for 1.5 BTC Post by: Blazed on August 25, 2015, 01:08:38 AM Explain to me why you PM'ed me saying YES you were talking to me when we have never talked before? You asked me via IRC if I was the real Blazedout and I said yes AFTER you had been scammed. After that I noticed a PM from you and replied that yes you were talking with me. Title: Re: Scammed by Blazedout419 for 1.5 BTC Post by: smoothie on August 25, 2015, 01:10:47 AM Always good to double check who you are dealing with by verifying their identity. Try asking for PGP signature of a message and then verify it in multiple places.
Sorry for your loss. Title: Re: Scammed by Blazedout419 for 1.5 BTC Post by: Quickseller on August 25, 2015, 01:14:22 AM Unfortunately it looks like you got scammed by BIazedout419 whose profile is here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=351728). I have really never used BTC-OTC or IRC, however based on your chat log it appears that it is not difficult to get scammed on IRC.
Whenever I sent BTC to someone, I always ask for a PGP signed message (and how I can independently find their PGP key) which is much more difficult to fake Title: Re: Scammed by Blazedout419 for 1.5 BTC Post by: lihuajkl on August 25, 2015, 01:14:27 AM That proves nothing. You got scammed. Not by the real Blazedout419, but by an imposter. Be more careful next timeSo, he is still scammer or hacked account? I also don't think Blazedout is ever going to scam anyone, however if he does, it will be for a lot more then a measly 1.5BTC Title: Re: Scammed by Blazedout419 for 1.5 BTC Post by: moneybat on August 25, 2015, 01:20:38 AM The scammer tricked both of you it seems?
Statdude by using BIazedout and blazedout by using trader and told each of you to message each other? Title: Re: Scammed by Blazedout419 for 1.5 BTC Post by: Blazed on August 25, 2015, 01:24:09 AM Ok we spoke and figured out hat happened here...

He got scammed by the fake Blazed and I got tricked into saying he was talking to me here. Shit happened to me when I was new to bitcoin. It's a VERY clever scam... wouldn't be surprised if it was the same person :\ I was new so never asked for a signed message and the scammer impersonated both me and Maidak (who was very trustworthy at the time) over skype which ended in the real Maidak confirming he was talking to me on skype, which he was not and me sending the scammer around $100 in BTC. Title: Re: EDITED Post by: statdude on August 25, 2015, 01:41:12 AM Blaze gave me 1 BTC to help offset a loss by an impersonator. I really appreciate this kindness. Warning to traders on IRC: COPY PASTE the username you are speaking to notepad, as the characters can be spoofed in IRC to look real when they are not. Also: Always confirm the username of people you are talking to in IRC is correct through an outside source.
To mods: if you allow me to leave trust for Blaze I'd like to leave positive trust and this message on his profile. Thanks. Title: Re: EDITED Post by: Blazed on August 25, 2015, 01:48:13 AM Here is how this scam worked and why I fell for it...
- "Trader" sends me a message on IRC saying he had been scammed by me or someone posing as me (Trader was actually the scammer not statdude) - The fake Blazedout (i not L) has the real statdude send me a message on forum to prove it is me. That is where statdude messed up - I already thought the scam had happened and he was verifying he was talking to me - he had not been scammed yet (had never even spoke with me). - I reply to statdude on forum and say "yes it is me" - that is where I messed up - I thought he was asking if were we talking that moment on IRC (I assumed trader = statdude as people often have diff nicks for irc/forums) - statdude gets scammed via the fake Biazedout419 - Then we figured it out via IRC One thing is for sure...I will never fall for that shit again!
