Title: Posts vs. Activity
Post by: knightkon on August 31, 2015, 11:22:24 PM
My profile shows I have 20 posts and only 14 in the activity.  Can someone please explain why this is like this.  I was under the impression that all my posts were considered activity.

The max activity points that you can gather is 14 in a period of 2 weeks.
So your activity will be updated tomorrow to 20 as your post and the max you can get is 28 activity points even if you make more than 28 posts.

See this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=237597.0

Basically it means you can earn up to 14 activity, every 14 day period, assuming your post count is greater than or equal to your potential activity.

For example, say you first join and make 30 posts in your first week, you would earn up to 14 points of activity. You would also have 16 posts counting toward potential activity waiting for the next period. Once the next period arrives, and you make at least one post, the entire 14 activity for the period will be credited, since you had 16 potential activity already waiting.

Sounds complicated, but basically it amounts to you can only earn activity at the rate of 1 activity per day over the long haul, also assuming you make enough postings. So in one year you could earn a potential 365 activity.

Most people will have more posts than activity. My thought is that activity was introduced as a way to keep people from spamming the forums with 100's of nonsense posts and becoming hero members in a day or two.

i recently learned this information too. just post once a day and you'll be getting the max activity (updated every 14days).
i dont understand why they chose to update every 14 days instead of every day.

If you have the number of posts larger than number of activity for >14 posts then yes, and in your case 43 posts and 14 activity tomorrow if you post you will get 28 activity.
If your post is equal (=) to activity then you will get 1 activity point for each post until you reach 14 activity points in a period of 2 weeks.
I think everything is clear now.

I now understand where that information came in.  Thank you very much for explaining this to me, very helpful.  I thought I was doing something wrong. Thanks again.

for activity to grow you have to post atleast once in a 14 day period.

No; just because you post once during a 14 day period doesn't mean you automatically get 14 activity points. You need to post at least 14 posts during that period of time.

That's because you had activity points not yet redeemed. When you post only 1 message every two weeks you gain 14 activity points but your activity points can't pass your post count.

You have a Potential Activity of 266 so after this point your activity number will stay 266 until next update which is at 15 September.

Here you can find everything you need to know about this kind of rules in this forum: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0)

Here is written even:

The way activity is calculated:

The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every hour.
