Title: [ANN] FreeBird : decentralized microblog
Post by: goodrain on September 02, 2015, 03:30:06 AM
FreeBird released. Project board:
https://nxtforum.org/freebird/ (https://nxtforum.org/freebird/)

What's FreeBird
FreeBird is a microblog system based on NXT blockchain. It is decentralized.

FreeBird vs Twitter.com
Twitter.com is centralized. Data is stored in the cloud. Website will be inaccessible for ISP or DNS problems.
FreeBird is decentralized. Data is stored in nxt blockchain. It runs anywhere with the blockchain.

Being decentralized means that no one is able to shut it down, as there is no single point to attack.

In twitter.com, administrators could delete tweets or forbid accounts if they want.
In FreeBird , there is no administrator, no one can delete your messages except yourself.

Twitter.com is free, but there is ads in it.
FreeBird use tiny fees to publish messages, there is no ads.

Let's tweet just like a free bird!

FreeBird fees
It's free to login and view tweets in browser.
But it consume NXT fee to publish your tweets into blockchain.
FreeBird will merge several tweets into one transaction to save NXT fee.
And each tweet also consume 1 FBC (FreeBird coin) . This helps reduce junk messages.

About  FBC
FBC asset ID: 17582972238882915337
FreeBird data is stored in FBC transactions.

About development
We also use java to develop FreeBird. People will find it easy to run just like nxt-client.

Idea is good, But name is  shocking, Besides is not free it cost  1 FBC , Besides peoples must are interested on run your client, So that you need a way of how do that.

The name means "tweet like a free bird".
A decentralized system need block fees to encourage the running nodes. More running nodes more decentralized.
Consume tiny fee to speak freely is not a bad choice for some people under observation of government control. Like Chinese.
These people will need FreeBird.
And in FreeBird, sending private message is safe. Third party can't decrypt or read it.

This is more in the direction that the great minds in crypto need to be focusing on.

Instead of spending all their time discussing if a Turing complete platform is, or is not possible, and if it is in our near future, etc., instead we need these geniuses to figure out a way to make users of the most popular centralized platforms successful now (EBay, Facebook, Craigslist, Twitter, etc), switch to decentralized platforms.

I'm not sure if people will adopt this, but it's headed in the right direction, and I applaud your wisdom and ambition.

At best, this becomes more popular than Twitter, at worst it's a great example of the direction our minds should be thinking.
