WOW great news for us, bitcoin users.
I'm just sorry that I don't live in America and can't spend my bitcoin at Walmart :)
I visited USA several times and know how big and important is Walmart.
I often went there to shop.
It seems that bitcoin is near to become mainstream and this will also help that the value of Bitcoin stabilize and grow in the near future.

I can't wait for the day when people can load up their Starbucks app directly using bitcoins. Then people can keep their silly coffee purchases off the blockchain, regardless of whether we have > 1MB blocks or not.

Today to buy coffee using bitcoins still requires 3 steps:
1) BTC -> Starbucks card via CardCash, Gyft, etc.
2) Load app with card number. This can be really annoying for the lazy people of today as it requires typing in over a dozen number into their phones.
3) Use the credits.

Has nobody told them about QR-Codes, yet? Is a multinational company like Starbucks to stupid to use a simple solution?

Well, their app generates a QR-codes for the checkout scanner, so I don't know why they don't make it such that you can load up the app in the same way. Also I have not seen e-gift cards delivered via QR codes - more like some number that you can copy and paste on your desktop computer but not always on a phone.

Looks like this site is working on allowing you to load bitcoins to the online wallet, then you can just go to Starbucks and pay with the app.

Why does the good bitcoin initiatives always starts in the West? I mean, no love for us bitcoiners in the Far East? :( Good thing that more and more merchants considered accepting bitcoin as a form of payment. We're on our way there, buddies. :)

I think in the near future the Bitcoin will be the real international currency,used by everyone.

I bought some coffee at starbucks in London once while using Fold app. It's cool but still to complicate and time consuming for the average joue out there.

Bitcoin is quite well known by now in US. Still work to do to conquer the world.

If you look closely you will see that biggest chunk of fintech movement and Bitcoin innovation and early adoption is happening in the US and then starts to spread around the world through the western route. Although Bitcoin is global the brainiacs mostly are sitting in the states.USA is home sweet home of internet and digital industry. The roots are there.
So don't worry it just takes a bit more time to reach you. But it will happen.

Wow, what a list! This is great news for Bitcoin. Too bad I have quit the US years ago. :) No, but seriously, these are exactly the moves that we need. Other companies all around the world will follow initiatives like this of its American colleagues. Soon enough, I hope, I will be able to pay with bitcoins everywhere I go.

When you pay with a credit card you are not paying with dollars. That is not a defeat to the dollar.

Haven't used them yet. Looks like they buy used gift cards and sell them so there's probably potential for abuse by the individuals. They do offer a guarantee though.

Supposedly they're coming out with an app which would be pretty cool. You can pay with bitcoins now though.

Actually, I have went to some of those stores and they said they weren't accepting that at all so I don't understand why this is a list. Perhaps this was an outdated listing that was republished of some sort. I do not know at all, but my point is that I did try purchasing and it didn't go through.

I don't like this country but I got to say that in economics they're truly innovative!

Not a bitcoin giftcard. If you are at one of these places and you have bitcoins you can go to the website https://www.cardcash.com and buy an e-gift card that shows up on your phone. You can then pay for your meal or whatever with your phone.

If you only want them to accept bitcoins directly then you obviously only care about the price going up from the publicity. But if you are someone who actually wants to be able to use bitcoins to live and buy things and leave banks and credit cards behind, then this is probably how most Bitcoin integration will happen. Most stores have gift cards, it doesn't matter what system they use, if you can pay with bitcoins for their card then you can shop at their store.

As time goes on the process will become more and more streamlined to the point that the store does not know you are paying in bitcoins and you don't know you're using a gift card.

Just like how I am paid in bitcoins. My company does not know I am paid in bitcoins, they do a direct deposit just like they would for anyone else. It is immediately converted to bitcoins for me without them knowing.

I think this fact is very relaxed. Because you can now use more often in everyday life. And that's just fine them. I also think that you can later use it to many more companies.
But we'll see later what happens.

Elwar as an early adopter you must be pretty comfortable financially in life. Getting paid 100% in bitcoin though is too much of a risk for most of us with the high volatility at times.

I am 100% bullish & HODL a decent amount of coins but I couldn't afford to get paid at the end of the month & overnight realise my wage has dropped 10-20% in value because of a crash etc.

Obviously it could happen the other way and the price goes up 10-20%, you'd have a nice surprise then ;D

I got to agree with you on that... It's like walking on a tight rope... I would be checking the Bitcoin price every 10 minutes. I much rather pay some extra fees to

convert some of my income to Bitcoin, but not all of it in one go. I do not know if it is really necessary to have a list, if you can use the Coinbase Shift card to buy

 almost everything. Some people in countries outside of the USA might need to use a service like this..

@Kprawn - I've been thinking about getting some kind of bitcoin debit card for a while. Tbh I just HODL my main stash & then gamble with the small amounts I get from sig campaigns.

It'd be cool to spend the sig campaign money instead of gambling with it.

Let's say I'm shopping at Stop&Shop.
While standing in line, all i have to do is go to my BTCeanie BTCabies trading website, sell my BTCeanie for cash, and use that cash to pay for the groceries.

Everyone has their monthly spending, for the typical American it might be $2-3k. $1k might go toward your housing, $500 toward transportation, etc.

When it comes down to it, the money you spend on every day expenses is not much. Let's say it comes down to $1k per month that you spend on things other than the basics. That is all you would need to convert to bitcoins. If the price drops 10% during your pay cycle, then you're out $100 for that pay period. If it goes up 10% for that pay period, you're up $100. But the price rarely changes that much during a pay cycle other than maybe once every 3-4 months at this point. And it evens out.

So it comes down to...can you afford to occasionally miss out on $100 or so (no going out to restaurants for a few nights) if eventually you'll be up $100 (yay, spend more when the price goes up...save when it goes down).

It is worth it for me to be able to have my foot out the door of the banking/fiat sector and the experience is valuable for showing me how it can be done instead of people theorizing about it.

If you're spending fiat, that means you're not buying bitcoins with that fiat. How is that any different from spending bitcoins instead of spending fiat?

I don't know much about Britain's places that take bitcoins. I was not very satisfied when I visited London. I only found one restaurant where I was staying that accepted it.

But YOU ARE spending fiat, just doing it in the most inconvenient, convoluted way possible.

These gift cards website, for instance, pays the stores with fiat, not BTC. You're simply using an extra middleman.
Why not skip the middleman, and make your life a bit easier saner?

I get paid in bitcoins...so converting to fiat just to go to the store is an extra step. I couldn't care less what they do on their end. I don't care if someone from Europe comes and uses their credit card and the credit card company changes their euros to dollars to go to the store.

What matters is the currency I use, and how it can be used all over the world.

If you look at the site you'll see that you actually save money by using the card on the site (usually around 10% discount). Sure, it's not for the simple minded. A few clicks with your finger are required.

But how is converting small bits of BTC into store gift cards each time you shop easier/smarter than converting a chunk of your BTC into cash every month?
I mean, do you like to make your life as difficult and complicated as you possibly can? Do you have so much free time that you'd rather look for stores offering gift cards on your website than be free to shop anywhere you please?

That's true. Many websites like coinbase as well only prefer US for sending bitcoin debit cards and withdrawals to banks as well and most of the websites mentioned in the OP as well are available for Americans only. I can't even order a debit card in my country as the shipping itself is more than the price of the card and shopping directly with bitcoins is not available for any websites in my country.

i hope many more startup like cardcash who add bitcoin giftcard to their plan,and as you mentioned,so many store accept that giftcard,this is will become good way to promote bitcoin and spread bitcoin to all aroud the world.

Walmart is not available for me and here we have dmart which doesn't accept bitcoins. I need to buy Amazon gift cards to purchase grocery items from online stores but getting gift cards also is time consuming. If I could use an online bitcoin payment like bitpay or coinbase, it would be better.

Among the places where I can use bitcoins, only KFC and Starbucks are two places where I can use it. I mainly shop at Amazon and they have yet not adopted bitcoins and the last time I asked them, they just gave a response that they'll

I use it all the time. I usually get 20% or more off of my purchase price too. No reason to buy anything on Amazon with fiat unless you hate saving money.

It's great if such big online stores start accepting bitcoins with ease and it would be more fun if we also get discount on purchasing through bitcoins.

That's great news but still it would be better if you could actually use bitcoins directly and avoid the extra medium fees and expenses, it would also be better for real bitcoin adoption but I suppose baby steps do good as well.

Maybe that particular Walmart you went to was special or that specific person you spoke to decided to trade your Fiat for BTC to purchase what you needed to purchase at your convenience. If this is true this is a huge improvement. To be able to pay at these stores shows that Bitcoin is getting bigger and more popular. But this is I think only in the US but it is a beginning.

It's great news though. But sadly there's no shop or gas stations that accept bitcoins, because bitcoins are not popular here. Maybe someday my country will have some.

Yeah they are pretty lucky that bitcoin is already accepted on some shop there,i too will wait for that to happen in my country so far only a 3rd party exchanger is available here.

Merchant acceptance is, IMO, the biggest single key to BTC becoming mainstream.  I am happy to see progress being made here.  I will have to test-fire WAL-MART next time I go (there is not one close by to where I live).

The next issue for the Bitcoin Ecosystem would be making far easier for beginners to acquire BTC, and not have to pay very high premiums (14% or more at BTC ATMs).

no doubt about this. bitcoin is the currency of futre. big marketplace and source already using bitcoin and more getting ready to accept bitcoin so soon. I can predict that bitcoin will be number 1 online currency in the web.

This is a great news for the bitcoin users and this is a step away from being well know in the market now that more companies is getting into bitcoin its price will rise now.

That will be great if you can directly purchase any item to those shops in the list using Bitcoins but if you are using a work around like debit cards and gift cards then we are still not using Bitcoins to pay for it. It's still a work around.

yes. it is also far away for bitcoin to purchase thing directly. but it is also a very big move for bitcoin. if we can buy cards with bitcoin and can shop every thing with these cards. it mean we are buying things with bitcoin.

I don't think it's an issue if we use gift cards purchased with Bitcoins to shop around in the big supermarket chains. I don't know how many confirmations Walmart would require before confirming the purchase if you were using Bitcoins directly plus there are usually a lot of people waiting in line so it would surely be slower than just giving them gift cards. And by the way PayPal is a workaround to your bank account as well but people aren't complaining about that are they?

Banks are a workaround to using Federal Reserve Notes.

actually sometimes I was envied for those who can purchases their needs using their bitcoin on daily life because i'm not able to do that and my country not admit bitcoin because they don't like to bitcoin users so for me in the near future impossible to do so

Yea this information is very useful it's really good improvement in bitcoin market. that's why digital currency value is increasing like this. I wil sure use my bitcoins to shop in these shops or stores but in our country it's not available once i visit other country i will use this to shop. Thank you for your information.

Well at my place , it's still impossible to happen since my goverment still not support bitcoin at all.
But in the future, hope my goverment can change their mind to accept bitcoin so there are more public facilitites such like hotel , restaurant, gas station , supermarket , etc that accept bitcoin so I can purchase more various product with bitcoin

this is good initiate to spread bitcoin in big amount of stores,even not direct payment with bitcoin,but cardcash can give easy payment for people who use and hold bitcoin,they can enjoy to buy cardcash giftcard for shopping in so many stores,i wish many more giftcard site that accept bitcoin.
