There is no evidence that "the government" has done anything in relation to GBLSE. Based on what people who've actually had contact with Nefario regarding this have posted, the catalyst for the closure of GBLSE was Nefario finally consulting a lawyer about GBLSE's activities and finding out that his previous (totally unsupported) assumptions that GBLSE wasn't breaking any laws were likely incorrect. He appears to be concerned about the possibility of being prosecuted for AML/CTF and taxation offences in the future if GBLSE continues operating, rather than having been forced into closure by an external agency. I was always wondering why they didn't do that....... Concerning the Topic: I think nefario forgot one very important thing "Plausible deniability" I mean, he must have been aware of the fact that this is a legal grey zone, and no one takes such a risk without remaining anonymous or taking precautions like living/hosting on some caribbean island with low/almost no goverment control? Secondarily in any case if that were true, in part the problem originates in using big-kid words like "stock exchange"... if the community wanted to grow without raising so many red flags then they should be more mindful of legal jargon....

Nope, Nefario naively assumed what he was doing was in fact legal. Not that he ever bothered to ask someone who knows the law, until recently at least, with the predictable result of GLBSE closing immediately. As for running GLBSE as a tor hidden service; Im sure its doable, but if GLBSE was a scammer dream come true, imagine what a Tor based equivalent would be like.
