Title: What happened to Blockchain.info?
Post by: tadakaluri on September 04, 2015, 05:59:24 AM
What happened to Blockchain.info?

When I check for an address, I get the following error: Got error 157 'Unknown error code' from NDBCLUSTER

Any one have any information on this issue?

idk, NDB CLUSTER is probably a virus.

IIRC it is either a virus attack or scheduled maintenance.

No info on that error but I've been on there three times earlier and each time received an error about the servers having reached their connection limits or something and that I should try again later.

I think the majority of the bitcoin community still make use of Blockchain.info to lookup accounts and or blocks etc.. And with their recently reached 4 million wallets it seems like things are getting a bit to busy in server land. Time for a big upgrade.

It is a scheduled Maintenance The Following Message on Blockchain.info says "We Will Be Back Shortly

Blockchain.info is currently down for maintenance. For status updates please see Twitter. Apologies for any inconvenience."

stress test about what, wasn't already established that core can't handle well a large number of transaction per seconds without raising an enourmouse queue list? what we need to discover anymore with those useless test besides bringing more anger among these that are making many TX at day

Blockchain.info is an address to collect of bitcoin.but when i search this address then see an error occurred. Please give me suggestion about it :)
Based on their twitter, they are currently under maintenance. Try using other block explorers like blocktrail.com or btc.blockr.io

Their servers should be more than powerful to handle a surge of transactions as it can afford to have 1000+ connections to them. They have been incredibly inconsistent and many bugs have surfaced, I won't use them if I were you.

Both the above mentioned block explorers are very good.
Personally I also find good use to the blockr API as well.

Yeah, it could be because of the stress test (if it started).
I remember they had server problems when the previous stress test was running.

Being one of the biggest wallet service providers, one would think they would have better methods than only Twitter to make these anouncements.  ??? If you have planned maintenance schedules, why not post

it on Bitcoin forums for everyone to prepare? It reminds me about the days when you got to a closed door at a fiat bank... oh it's still like that.  ;) The only difference being that you not prompted by the ATM to say

this service is termporarily down... you have to go to another service to find more information about it. There must be a way to notify people in advance?  ???

The forums here do the same when they are offline.
I guess it's because they had no way of knowing they would be going offline or something.

Latest updates on this issue:

Quote
Blockchain co-founder Nic Cary told CoinDesk the downtime was down to the company "installing some new equipment", adding that it has been "growing fast" lately.

The company’s outage follows a six-hour period of downtime experienced by global bitcoin marketplace LocalBitcoins earlier this week.

LocalBitcoins’ community manager 'Max' said in a post on Reddit the problem was related to server issues: "It seems a server got hung up ... We're about to move to new equipment as the current servers are quite old, sad that they had to crash before we moved."

Relax people I'm sure they'll be up within the next 5-6 hours. This has happened a few times with them & they always get back up & running. If you're paranoid about any funds you have on there just type your public key into another block explorer & you'll see your funds are safe.

If the worst happened then as long as you have your private keys you can move your coins elsewhere. The private key is on the paper wallet sub section on the my wallet page. Too late now though if you don't have it lol.

Well yes, this seems as a standard procedure for everyone in the Bitcoin world. Everybody are using Twitter to let their customers know when they are offline for maintenance or that they have some other problems. So I don't see any problem here.

For example, last time the btc-e was down few weeks ago, they haven't put any announcement on forums, they were just updating accordingly their Twitter page.

Check their twitter - they're beginning to tweet users back. This usually means they're not far away from a solution.
Tweeting multiple users back certainly doesn't point towards a hack or scam any way.

...

Perhaps by chance blockchain.info was down late last night (~ midnight US ET) as well as just now.

Each time this happens makes me want to keep even less BTC with them (most is on my Ledger and Trezor).  Their convenience is top-notch.
