Title: [idea] Cards to leave at businesses asking them to accept Bitcoin as a payment
Post by: Elwar on September 10, 2015, 09:21:34 AM
What do you think about business cards that you can leave at businesses requesting that they accept Bitcoin as a payment?

Something like:
"Please pass this card along to the owner"
"Greetings, although today I paid using your conventional payment system I would rather pay using Bitcoin. For me it is more convenient and for you it is cheaper than paying credit card fees.
I would also be more likely to visit more often if Bitcoin was a payment option. As would other Bitcoin users."

back of card
"Here are the simple steps for accepting Bitcoin:
1. Sign up for BitPay (or CoinBase, Paymium) at http://www.bitpay.com
2. Set up your business and bank account for deposit
3. Download the app to a tablet or phone made available at your business for payment."

Can anyone come up with a design? There are plenty of businesses that could print out cards.

You could just drop them an email instead .
Something you might consider is drop in a card with some loaded bitcoin, and put in the steps to use it and take it off the loaded paper wallet.

This is not a bad idea. I make a point of always asking whether I can with bitcoin even if I know that they do not accept it.

I do this in the hope that there is others as well and eventually the owner of the business will start picking up that there is a demand for bitcoin payments. So it would actually be a good idea to leave a card there with more details.

I've done the email thing before but wonder how many of the business owners I've sent it to actually took the time to read it. Few business owners I know of, take the time to read through an email if it's not specifically business related. Guess most just delete everything that's not relevant. A card on the other hand might lay around for a longer period and might just get more attention than email. It might also be seen by more people during this time so it might turn out to be slightly more effective.

Thing is they have thousands if not millions of emails the bigger companies. i believe a physical card would be an awesome way to approach this issue

Careful with who you endorse on the cards, some of the big names like Coinbase have become centralized monstrosities. Perhaps focus more on the qualities of Bitcoin.

1) Instant transactions
2) Completely anonymous if you choose
3) All transactions documented forever
4) Your money will never be frozen
5) No restrictions on how much you can send or where you can send it
6) Extremely low fee of ~5 cents even if you send $100 million to the other side of the world
7) Cryptographic security makes Bitcoin even safer than banks
8] Expand your customer base since you can receive payments from anywhere in the world
9) Potential for significant profits as Bitcoin becomes more valuable with time
10) The future of money

I would leave any bitcoin company off the cards. Due to them being very unstable and seems like all the exchanges seem to rip off their customers in the long run

A good idea, emails could also be a good idea as long as it doesn't end up in their junk folder :)

It should only list the advantage to the business. Those are all advantages of Bitcoin but a business just wants a simple "how does this benefit my bottom line?".

I think a payment processor should be listed because most businesses don't care about the politics like we do. They don't care about XP or Core or BIP100 or whichever. They want simple, 5 minutes and I'm accepting this thing that brings me more customers. I've only set up a business with BitPay so that's what I went with, I know it's easy.

The "add your bank account" part lets them know that they'll be getting paid in their local currency. Could probably specify that.

Could also say at the bottom:
For other Bitcoin payment options try "XYZ, abc, etc."

I think this is a great idea.

Perhaps have a tag line on the bottom or beside the logo on the physical card, something that will get the main benefits of Bitcoin over fast, perhaps:

'Bitcoin, making payments quicker, easier, cheaper and more secure for everyone.'

I think it's a good idea. If you can make yourself available (telephone number) I'm sure they'd appreciate it. People who are interested often just need a little help getting started and getting some questions answered.

I would gladly do this, im sick and tired of having to go to the bank/do some bank transaction to convert my Bitcoin in order to spend them, it totally defeats the purpose. I want to go to any shop and be able to buy with them. Unfortunately I have no graphic design skills to do the card.
