Title: 2 6850s @ 196MHash/s - more doable?
Post by: bob777fred on June 03, 2011, 09:41:46 PM
Hey all,

Been following and reading this board like crazy, finally decided to post. I've got a rig that's got Crossfired 6850s, running at about 196mhash/s each. Are these cards capable of pushing more out? I've been reading 250s for lower end cards, so I'm assuming more is? I'm not proficient enough with the parameters to pass into everything, so I'm not sure where to begin trying =\

Using the Slush pool currently, with current extras at -v -w 128 -f 30, using GUIMiner.

Thanks!

Overclock it a little with MSI Afterburner. Also try to see if you get better performance without crossfiring them, you might need a dummy plug if windows don't pick up the 2nd card. Some ppl have reported no performance loss with crossfire and some have. Worth a try either way to see if un-crossing them will give you a little more hash

Thanks pokermon,

Using the AMD Overdrive suite right now to OC the cards - I'll try the crossfire removal this evening when I'm physically there. Are there better cards out there (not the new 6990s, out of my price range), that are a good cost/BC?

5830's are great $/hash I like the 5850's more but they are hard to come by now a days.

Should be able to squeeze 280 Mhash out of a 5830 pretty easily, I've had mine as high as 320 in testing.

Are you stalking me? JK  :P

5830's are talk of the town now that 5850's are so hard to come by.

Thanks both of you - looks like I'll be sending these 6850s back and getting 2 5830s in their place. I can't quite understand how a lower end card has a higher rate of return for this kind of stuff. I mean..I'll practically double my hash rate with these new cards, and get $40 back in the process.

I've pushed my 6850 to 240MHash/s

980/1000 on stock voltage

HD 5830 has 1120 Stream Processors .
HD 6850 has 960 Stream Processors.

6850 have more resell value, use 70% less power, dont melt down the room they are in and the heat doesnt force you to use low clocks on one card. Not really worth the hassle, but you will see, i guess  ;)
