in your face probability. that is all Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: FreeJAC on June 03, 2011, 10:20:43 PM Congrats and nice job. Gives hope to us n00bs tryin to figure this stuff out.
Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: Genrobo on June 03, 2011, 10:25:56 PM The VERY first time I started mining, it was solo, and I found a block in 8 hours.
That was either the 240,000 difficulty jump or it was the 150,000 difficulty jump I don't really remember, but at the time the calculator told me it would take 1-2 weeks. pffft Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: oyster2000 on June 03, 2011, 10:29:30 PM i aint too happy either, ive been mining with slush for a couple of weeks and ive found 5 blocks while ive only earned about 170BTC ...... seriously thinking of going solo, i found 2 blocks in one day during the week at about 4ghash :/

You're pool-mining to even out variance, right? Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: bcpokey on June 03, 2011, 10:35:38 PM i aint too happy either, ive been mining with slush for a couple of weeks and ive found 5 blocks while ive only earned about 170BTC ...... seriously thinking of going solo, i found 2 blocks in one day during the week at about 4ghash :/ If you think your luck will continue to hold, then that indeed might be a good option. Myself I've found as far as I know 0 or 1 blocks in a month of 3GHash mining. Let's just say I made far more BTC than that ;) Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: jasonk on June 03, 2011, 11:06:58 PM I've found 3 blocks @ deepbit but only earned 90 BTC. So yes sometimes you get lucky.
If you have a lot of hashing power and don't mind seasons of good luck and bad luck, solo mining is the way to go. Plus you'll earn more. 50BTC a block + transaction fees, and you shouldn't have downtime due to DDOS'ing or pool issues / maintenance. Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: Jdumond on June 03, 2011, 11:31:39 PM I am not math expert, but from what I read its about 4-5g/h to find ~1-2 block per week otherwise pool mine, sell coins, buy real stuff.
or just get lucky like i did Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: shivansps on June 03, 2011, 11:45:24 PM thats why i like to keep my cpu in solo mining sometimes... it gets nothing on a pool, but i may get lucky in solo.
Just wondering WHY i cant solo mine with ufasoft :S Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: ataranlen on June 04, 2011, 12:18:12 AM I have found a total of 7 blocks since I started mining in February, and that wasn't ALWAYS 24/7. Had about 1.6 ghash/s
In total I've earned about 300 BTC on various pools. Pooled mining is the way to go! You support the newer people and remove your variance. Sure I could have earned 350BTC total by now, But Who's to say I wouldn't have earned any at all? Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: kiwiasian on June 04, 2011, 12:44:31 AM I hope you guys realize there are some n00b miners here (ahem me) that is nowhere even near being able to get one block in a month.
Sigh. Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: fpgaminer on June 04, 2011, 12:54:21 AM Quote I've found 3 blocks @ deepbit Is there a way to look this up on deepbit's website? I'm kinda curious how many blocks I found :PI've recently switched to solo mining, and I'm praying it's actually working correctly right now :P My 95% probability is 17 days, or 5 days on average, so if I don't find a block in two weeks I guess I fscked something up >:( Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: innervisi0nn on June 04, 2011, 01:03:05 AM Quote I've found 3 blocks @ deepbit Is there a way to look this up on deepbit's website? I found 50.05 BTC in 5:59 hours on my first day. W00t. Probably wont ever happen again, now I switched to pool mining for steady payout. Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: w0mbat on June 04, 2011, 01:13:13 AM is it possible to find a block if you are doing poolmining? i mean im mining @deepbit, is there a chance that one day ill get 50btc (-fees) by being lucky? normally you just get shares.
can someone help me? No, you share that 50 with the rest of the pool. Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: w0mbat on June 04, 2011, 01:27:26 AM ok. but im only mining with a single hd5770, getting 180mh/s so single mining is just a waste of time, isnt it?
Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: airdata on June 04, 2011, 01:41:03 AM baller status. shoot me a btc ;)

Its personal preference. Title: Re: In your face difficulty level Post by: njloof on June 04, 2011, 01:58:02 AM This is why I'm amused when I see people running "bitcoin lotteries". Want a bitcoin lottery? Start solo mining. All the thrills and only the electric bill to pay. ;)
