I was going to search something on Google and this thing at the top appeared (like the blue bar that asks you about accept cookies). A grey bar appeared. It's basically a donation thing for the Syria crisis. They have already donated 2 million dollars out of 10 million goal. I instantly thought about Bitcoin. Could we do a donation thing for this too? If the Bitcoin community surpassed 10 million dollars, the headlines would be great, and we do need positive headlines. We need the average Joe to know that Bitcoin can be used for good things too, this may be a great opportunity to shine.

Already saw it and thought immediately "too bad they don't accept Bitcoin" :)

Altough this is not the main goal of this thread, is there something other than their word that guarantees that they don't track us in any way whatsoever?

This donation think is a great way to increase public bitcoin awareness, we - as bitcoin community need it badly.
But we need also some centralized company/organization to be in charge of the money from donations.

Every money that goes to Syrians is wasted, i guarantee you that. Just come to countries that Syrian refugee's immigrants are in or are passing, and you will see their true nature.
There are riots and mini'wars that they started from Macedonia to France. They're starting riots in europe but they didn't have balls to fight in their homeland.

I don't think the bitcointalk community is that generous. A 10M$ goal would be unrealistic.
As for people seeing this as an opportunity to raise Bitcoin's popularity, I doubt it will have any effect even if the campaign is very successful.

well is hard to donate soo many bitcoins to help a third person,and about the impact that would have into bitcoin community would be zero,why most people dont know what it is and wont use or get interested because some people donated money as bitcoin.Atleast this is my opinion atleast donating with bitcoin wont affect bitcoin.

Since Google does not run the charities, and the private charities are on their own when it comes to fulfilling their humanitarian goals, I don't feel like private charities would be interested in bitcoin donations. They potentially could be missing out on a lot of money, true, but they would also be responsible for converting the bitcoin to fiat, in order to use any of it. That requires fees (however small), waiting periods and/or corporate agreements if using coinbase or the like, or small volume if selling locally, which charities would likely not like to get involved with.

But that's just why I think it isn't happening as of now, feel free to correct me.

Even google being soo big at is it several people dont trust on those campaigns.. they can hide and control soo better donate directly to who can help.

So true. Plus it says (at least in the French version) that the donations goes to help the migrants, not especially the Syrians one. I'll tell you what I think about this :

First : the majority of them are solo males, not the family that the French shitty government describe us.

Second : ONLY and ONLY the christians from Syria and Irak are in a extremely dangerous situation regarding to the Islamic State. The muslims won't be murdered if they act peacefully, but the christians, even if they help IS, will be killed.

Third : a lot of migrants are Africans, who are not as in danger as the christian for Syria and Irak. Also why countries such as Algeria take care of the Nigerians ?

So stop to lie to us. We've too much problems to care about everyone's problems. And also, why send them to France and Germany ? When Turkey and Lebanon are peaceful countries, plus which are just next to ? That was my opinion about this debate.

The goal as already been fullfiled with at least 90%. Also you're right, no one will see the way of payment used.

Eh, I'd rather extend my help to those organizations worth trusting for rather than Google. Also, people, there are other things that we can do to help, not just only donating money. We can send those reputable organizations our donations in kind: used clothes, canned goods and whatever we can do to extend our help. :)

Solo males are still humans, I dont see the point. Besides considering that those people come from a warzone young males around their physiological prime have the highest chance of survival.

Esp. germany has a problem with a lack of young people as it has one of the lowest birth rates worldwide[1]. Accepting and helping immigrants is actually helping germany and can solve some of its problems. On top of that, even if, these are people in need.


Thats nothing but prejudices, there is no hint that terrorist hide among refugees. It is way more likely that locals are turned into terrorists[2].


I had a syrian refugee family for diner. I was astonished by their politeness even though the entire family (sisters, aunts, etc.) are seperated over several european countries and they are not allowed to work. Mind you the man in question has an economics masters degree, is in germany 18 months and living off the bare minimum in rooms provided by a church they have to share with several other families.


Agreession comes with poverty not with heritage.

@shorena : What about the Africans ? You're right with the Syrians, they're really well educated people, very polite. About the solo male, I never stated they were not humans. The thing that I do not agree is to lie to us by saying it's families. I call this propaganda.

Instead of buying useless stuff for them, we should buy them weapons so they could fight the Islamic State.

Good to see that at least someone is accepting donations straight through bitcoin, this is good news.

You will not be assisting terrorist by doing this. There are a lot of people evacuating their countries of origin to get away from these people, who are killing them, because they are not supporting their cause.
These people will go back after the fighting was done, and if we handle them like animals, they will turn hostile against us.

How can we turn our backs against women and children who are hungry and scared for their lives? Their only goal is to survive.
 
Put yourself in their shoes and then decide if this is a good or a bad thing.
